hi was out in my 87 110 and the lower steering joint turned on the shaft and knackered the splines no probs i thought ill just buy a new one and chuck it on only when i got the part from paddocks its about 1 cm shorted and made of steel where as the one on there was aluminium so now everything is a bit to short can any one tell me some lengths such as how long should the shalf be how far out of the bulk head does the steering columb poke so i can work out which bit is wrong ill try and up load a picture later of the steering joint i took off as it is signicantly different and someone may be able to identify it for me thanks rob

The fact that is is steal not aluminium does not matter. Being a little shorter will only be an issue if is it too short for the shaft to fully engage with each side. I have fitted the new one you have in the past and the shaft still extended fully through the hole and could be seen on the other side.

The distance between the clamp hole center's is what's important not overall length I would have thought.
There is some fore and aft movement on the shaft if you remove all the UJ clamp bolts and jiggle the shaft so it reaches then replace the bolts you may find it's ok.

nope it is to short with everything fully extended and bolts through three of the holes the last bit that goes onto the steering box splines only goes on 5mm so i cant get the final bolt in. if i could find out what the aluminium one came off of i could get a new one of those and it would all work

Hmmm.... What's the hole centres measurements between old and new?
I think, going off distant memory, the column itself can be moved fore and aft a bit on its clamps/mounts?

the new one is 64mm and old one is 78mm i thought about moving the columb if i couldnt find a better solution just wish i could get a new aluminium joint

It's a weird one for sure.
What are the hole centres on the good upper UJ? I believe the two ujs are the same part number? Is the upper UJ same as the new too short one ?

nrc7387 should be longer steel joint, yours is a td5 shaft imo

Don't know where you bought it from but Paddocks list a lower and an upper and they are different sizes

Lower NRC7704

Upper NRC7387

It might just be you or the supplier have sent you the wrong one....

thanks for all the help guys

id need to see a pic of the whole shaft to confirm what you have

looks like the old one just needs to be cleaned up and reoiled, cant the bearings be fixed in those.
