Several times over the last few weeks I have gone to steer and it's felt like I had no powered steering for a moment before suddenly working fine. The first time it happened I just thought I was imagining it but it happened again and again a week later then another week later. Anyway today I started the engine and tried to reverse whilst steering and the wheel only moved a few degrees then stopped then a few degrees and stopped and again and again. The pulses seemed to tie in with the engine. Once I revved it a few times all was well and I drove about 16 miles with no further issues.....

Steering pump? Pipe? Too much alcohol over Christmas?

It's a 300TDi no idea about it's level of PAS oil. My mate checked all the fluids whilst we were both doing a major service on it about 6 months ago and to be honest I've not checked it since. I was planning on doing a full service at the end of January. There is a tiny leak from the PAS but it's really tiny and been there for a while.

check the oil level, mines leaking does this when it gets low

I'd go for either low on fluid, loose belt or loose pipe on pump, but i found out when mine did this the power steer bracket was hanging off due to 3 of 4 fixing bolts broken

I've been out and checked and the PAS fluid was below the minimum but just onto the end of the dipstick. I've topped it up now and hopefully that'll sort it.

Thanks everyone.....

Good job, check it again after a run,

Did you check your other fluids at the same time???:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Axles, transfer box and gearbox were checked a couple of weeks ago. Oil and water are ok too. I just forget to check the steering fluid but that'll change now.

:D:D:D jobs a good un,there a bit of a bitch to change the pump if its a 300 done mine twice because a quality britpart was used it lasted 3 months, infact the box it come in lasted longer i used it to send jonlad some bits

Remember to bleed it if your fluids were down as far as you say, as you might have some air pockets in the system!

I had similar issues with my Peugeot. Fluid was at normal level. Turned out to be a faulty steering pump. As soon as I fitted a new one, everything was back to normal and it's been the same for the past 4 months.
