Hello,
I have a defender 1986 12j engine, when the engine is running, the pulley on the steering pump appears to be rattling, I don't know how serious this will get, trying to avert looming trouble. Is it the pump that I will soon be replacing or its just some parts in the steering pump like a bearing or some other? If its just some parts, could anyone please assist with instructions on how to do it. So far I have done some repairs on other things myself like changing shock absorbers and ball-joints and would really like to sort this head-on but don't know how to. Please help.

Bearing is on way out...mine seized and caused a world of pain...get it done quick. You need a new pulley.

Thanks Storm99, did you fix it yourself? Do you have any pictures on how to do it? I need some help.

Sorry no pics...its quite simple, three bolts hold the pulley on, you need to use a bar or something to hold the pulley tight otherwise it just spins as you try to undo them! New belt and pulley and off you go!

Yes...as long as its for a 12j but avoid britpart...get a quality one, it will last years.
