Going to be ordering a genuine LR steering damper soon for my 110 300tdi (part number RTC4472), they seem to cost around £60.

Is there much difference between genuine and the other reputable brands - Terrafirma, Bearmach etc? Do Bearmach make the genuine ones?

Please make sure that replies dont mention the word Britpart!:)

I have a supergas damper on my 110. I fitted one to my previous 110 and was so impressed I bought one for my current one. Unfortunately it is made by ****part. It's been on for quite a while now (I think it's about 2 years).

We sell lots of the terrafirma return to centre dampers and the feedback from our customers is very positive. It tends to help prevent a bit of the wandering and the need to correct the steering when trying to go in a straight line, the feel is much more like a regular car, when turning corners, with the steering centreing it'self, you can let the wheel slide back through your hands after cornering. Those that I have spoken to were glad they bought one.
I fitted one to my own 110 and was very pleased with the results, you might say I'm biased as i sell them but then I won't sell stuff I'm not happy to fit to my own Defender!

not if you have bigger/wider wheels.

I fitted a Terrafirma RTC damper about a year ago, its brilliant stops the wandering and also helps with the returning to centre although its not automatic i belive this is because of the size of my tyres. 33/12.5/R15 for £15 more than a standard damper its a bargain.
