Went to fit a britpart steering damper bush kit earlier today and all that was in the bag was 2 yellow poly bushes for the stud end and 1 for the eye end with the little metal tube. No cup washers and I guessed you don't use them, 4 in total, 2 either side of the chassis bracket.
On second thoughts I decided that it was better to have them than not and luckily they were all in good shape considering so I could reuse them.
Should I have?
Were there supposed to be new washers in the kit?
Bit disappointing to find they should be used and not supplied.
Had a similar nark when I ordered new brake flexi hoses, also britpart, and they didn't have the nuts included which put me off the road for a week.
The old nuts never come off clean and regarding the steering damper, the cup washers are nearly always rusted and worn.
Cost cutting I guess?

IIRC, Mike at Brittanic resto's on the tube mentioned this the other day - some of the bush kits don't have the washers o_O .... he didn't elaborate further - but, like you I would be fitting my old ones ...... as, how the **** does the load get spread evenly without the load spreading washers

Sounds "designed to fail" territory to me  :mad::mad:

Ordinarily I don't bother rebushing dampers as new complete ones are cheap enough and I never have much luck getting the rusty nuts undone and the damper usually ends up damaged
In one way or another. This time I was lucky with the nuts probably because they are high up and the steering guard offers some protection from water/mud spray. Front lower damper nuts are a right pita though, I just cut them off and fit new cheapy dampers.

I should say I had a new steering damper ready but thought I would try getting the old one off first which was perfect just bushes looked ropey and I ordered the bush kit with the new damper to get free postage:cool::D

Copper grease on assembly works for me ;)
Always copper grease them I do.:)
Did the drop arm today and it came off easy, I suspect because of the copper grease it was balmed in last time it was off 9 yrs ago or it might have been the slight leak from the bottom seal keeping it rust free:rolleyes::D.
Got the steering ujs to do next when they arrive, also copper greased but that was 16yrs ago and that's long gone now looking at them:rolleyes:
