Hi folks

Hope all are well, looking for some advice regarding my steering, in an attempt to tighten everything up i have gone round and changed all my ball joints (bar the drop arm) bushes and the dampner, now im just going around everythign and checking for more play and have no noticed that the input shaft to the box (where the steering column goes down from the steering wheel has alot of movement back and forward before ay movement is seen below the box. I know there is the adjustment on top of the box, will this make any difference? how far can i crank it up?

Cheers folks

Edd

first ensure box is central it might not be in relation to road wheels and steering wheel or both ,some boxes have a pin that can be put through rear of drop arm into bottom of box others you count the turns then set in the middle lock to lock is about 3 and 3/4 turns , either side of this central position box has freeplay by design onmly center part shouldnt , once thats achieved undo nut on adjuster with 19 mm spanner and wind adjuster in with 6 mm allen key whilst rocking input lightly with the other hand feelling the freeplay ,adjust till nearly gone , then try the vehicle down the road been paying extreme attention to steering till your sure its ok ,on some worn boxes adjusting can make box stiff or loose self straightening etc , if it still feels a bit loose repeat adjustment doing exactly as before or loosen a little if it feels tight etc
