Hi Looks like I've got to repace my leaking PAS box on my Td5.

Can anyone tell me if £150 notes is reasonable for a recon one with 12months Warrantee

and

Secondly how much of a bitch is it to replace?
Could an electrician with some spanner experience do it? (me) or is it a full blown grease monkey job? (expensive mechanic)

Thanks

Had ours replaced by local garage + mot mine works cost approx £350 (lost the bill) that was fitted by them. Ours was a disco 1 auto 1991

Have a read of the workshop manual on how to do it. would maybe give you an idea of how difficult it would be.

The biggest problem is the weight of the steering box (15kg). Getting the old one out is relatively easy but getting the replacement back in is easier if you can get someone to help. Recon steering boxes are £150-£200.

hi mate , the biggest problem is getting the drop arm off youre old box, youll need some warming gear if the recon box hasnt got one fitted, ive chainged a few of these now , i wouldnt recomend you try youreself if youre not totally confident, let a pro tackle it for you, there a bit of a headache at the best of times, job start to finish (if everythin not siezed up) about 3 and half houres, cost about £85. to £150 depending how everything comes off, and to bleed the system, obviously plus vat , hope this helps

Thank you very much for that answer. Was half tempted to be a havago hero, but wont bother now! If it had wires on it no problem, but coz its spaners and oil, I'll bottle it on the advice of others. Cheers all.
