Hi Folks

Just had the steering box re-conditioned by a specialist, the box has now been fitted and I have found when I first drove the vehicle in the morning it was very stiff with almost no power steering at all until I get past the first few yards.
It has only just been repaired so I assume it will just take a few miles of driving to get the box working properly? by the time I got down the road it was fine so not sure yet if the problem will be repeated later but I had a few moments online so thought I'd check.
Does that sound right or could there be a problem with the re-con?

Any ideas

Many thanks in advance

Sounds like it was air in the system which has now been bled through by use. Check the steering fluid level as it may need a top up.

Yeah air in the system, Usually once its al reconnected you turn the steering lock to lock a few times then slowly open the bleed nipple on the top of the box. But sometimes a wee bit of air still gets trapped, i would advise rebleeding and make sure the fluid is topped up

Out of interest, who did the recon and what was the cost? If I can't adjust the play out of mine I'm going to have to look to a replacement as it's like trying to drive a barge down our lanes at the moment! :(

Sorry for not coming back, been travelling a bit.
Can't tell you who did it, my local garage handled it and sent the box off to London to be re-conned.
two week later it is still stiff on the first start but as you say I think it's air so will try to sort it out

Thanks folks
