So, I have been researching threads on here about steering box overhaul and it seems to me that all of the collective experience is to remove the steering box with the steering column attached otherwise ball bearings end up all over the show.

So, my question is - is this sequence correct or am I barking up the wrong tree:

  • Remove steering wheel and indicator stalk assembly;
  • Undo steering column attachments at the bulkhead;
  • Remove steering box cover under the wing;
  • Remove the drop arm on the steering box output shaft;
  • Undo steering box mounts;
  • Withdraw steering box and steering column.

Do I need to remove the dashboard?

Many thanks.

I don't think theres a fixing behind the dash, the holding bracket is in the engine bay on the bulkhead. You will need to take out the binnacle tho so you can see what you are doing to guide it out. Take off the ignition barrel and it will slide out.
Put a cloth under the box when you take it apart cos the ball bearing will go everywhere!!

First question is it steering box woes that you have ? I always look at the steering relay first when chasing issues.
