Hi

Ive been servicing my 300tdi today and I wanted to adjust the steering box but damm that locknut is on tight.

I tried with a spanner = no chance so then tried and got socket set and ratchet and still it would not move!

Any ideas? ive sprayed it with wd40 and could keep doing that for a week or so.

Should I try with a breaker bar?

Has it been painted over?

Can you get to the bleed nipple, or does it not need bleeding?

The adjustment screw and lock nut should not have been over tightened.

However if you do damage the screw, if memory serves correctly, it is a standard replacement.

Have you tried a long ring spanner with a screwdriver bit on a socket and turning them both together?

yes but only adjust with box central ,and rock input shaft by hand to feel play been removed

Its a bit oily but it hasnt been painted over, its the 19mm locking nut that just wont budge.

I want to take out a bit of play in the steering, ive done a search and cant seem to find anyone else with this problem.

Ill just have to keep soaking it in wd40.

Mine was absolutely solid

Shocked it and it suddenly went, but suspect will need to replace the box before too long:mad:

thats why i love my snap on impact gun, I loves the bolts that you hate.. Can you get a breaker bar in?

Just to update

I ordered a breaker bar and a 6 point socket and it did it with ease.

The WD40 soaking in probably helped aswell.

You don't need anything other than a 1/2" snap on gun, Id make love to mine if physically possible..........

Yes i said that..

Haha, I would be nice to have a smaller one to be fair. But you can control the 1/2" ones pretty well.
As would the big 3/4" one, More powerful :D
Think mine is getting old now and one of the batteries is f*cked :(

one of my batteries died the other week :'(

brother in law brought a 1000lb/ft lithium ion battery powered one.... w****r......

He also has a small dewalt one that works well in tight spaces but again i think a normal ratchet works good for that.
