Hi, last couple of weeks I’ve noticed the steering wheel isn’t as smooth and feels a bit knotty? any suggestions ?

What vehicle? Does it have PAS?

Steering column U joints, track rod ends, drag link linkages. Steering damper failure, steering box bearing failure, low PAS fluid (or manual box oil), wheel bearings issues, swivel bearings failed etc, to name but a few possibles.....

Oh sorry, it’s an 06 TD5 and yes PAS

I’m not an expert at all but it does feel like a PAS issue

Try some wd40 on the steering shaft ujs under the bonnet. If it gets better, time to change the problem one.

Have you checked your belt? If it's slipping when the steering is loaded, that won't help!

As he said ^^^^ also check fluid levels with the engine running

def check the fluid, mine went stiff yesterday thought belt had slipped.... fluid res was nearly empty..

Thanks guys, I’ve checked the fluid and it’s fine, does feel like the belt might be slipping but would that not make a noise?

Not always, could just need a smell tweak rather than being v loose

Do td5's not have an automatic belt tensioner like 300tdi's? Not seen one myself....
