Car would not start two weeks no power at all. RAC came out and confirmed alternator was dead. £500.00 later new one in.
Again this morning car dead.
Did notice last night the windows where steamed up, went out and checked on car everything was off.
Anyone had anything similar?
Rac are on the way again
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hi, whereabouts are you ? perhaps someone local to you will help .. also more deatails please ie any ignition lights at all ? does remote open and close locks ? and is the light flashing when alarm is set i.e. on windowsill at front ? cheers mozz

hi again , is the tensioner on the fan belt working i.e. there should be no play on the belt at all . if there is then the alternator will not recharge battery , its worth a look ?
cheers mozz :)

Hi Mozz,
No nothing completely dead. RAC have tested and say there is a 3 amp loss somewhere even with the new alternator. Tested battery which is also fine???
RR dealer can do a diagnostic today for £95.00.

Rac guy seems to think the smartcharge system on the ECU needs reprogramming, as the car has had recent 2010 lights upgrade(Not by me), he feels maybe the spark has messed up ther ECU.

hi jon , ok maybe the main stealer will identify the problem but at a cost ? if you put in where your based perhaps one of our landy lads may have a faultmate and be local to you and do the job a lot cheaper for tea and biccies plus they wont charge to identify and clear faulrs like the main stealers do ??? its just a thought as itseems to work for a lot of landy fellas ???? hpoe this helps ,let me know the result cos something is causing the drop in power but aa man will have tested whilst BECM is awake which could possibly show as a loss , im not too sure but other better electrically minded chappies will come along soon , cheers mozz

Is this an L322 or a P38? If an L322 then I would suspect the lights upgrade. There is no smart charge ECU on a P38:)

Thanks all,
Stealer ran diagnostic and came back with a number of cells were dead on the battery. As they had one I bit the bullet and told them to fit it after they confirmed this was definatley the problem.

Picked the car up at 5pm today, all seems well, but went out at around 7ish and noticed again the windows all steamed up, as I got in the car I heard the aircon vent blowing then turn itself off suddenly when I opened the door???

I think the stealer has not sorted the problem and will take it back to them tomorrow, and demand they sort it at no charge as they should of done in the first place, and Iam not sure now if it needed a new battery at all.

The aux heater is definatley turned off so its not that.
Hope it starts in the morning...
Will keep you informed.
Cheers

Has the fan heater blower resistor ( hedgehog shaped) been changed? This can keep the fan blowing even after your car has been parked up for a while. They are not expensive, about £35, a pain in the ass to fit, but are very prone to failing!

I'm new to the forum so I hope Im not way out of the ball park here but does it have preset climate control? I think I had an audi that you could set to switch the air con or heating on prior to your entry into the car? And since you have the light upgrade perhaps buy a cheap original set and refit them to see if that helps. best of luck too btw!

Many Thanks... way to technical for me, I put petrol, oil and water in it thats the extent of my knowledge.
Where would I find this resistor???

if you take off the drivers side console cheek. You will then need to lay on your back and look up, with torch at the very back of the heater matrix you will just make out the very end of it. I would google the part, there are quite a few leads on how to best do the job. It takes about an hour but is more fiddly than labour intensive.
On my car the fan would have very little control over speed and would stay on for ages after turning the car off, draining the battery. Once I changed the part no such problem.

Thanks, if it is not sorted with the new battery I will definatley attempt that.
Also if you ever get a BMW MK4 Sat Nav dvd unit. I want to upgrade my standard 2002 cd nav.
I beleive it is the MK4 unit I need for my L322, please contact me.
Thanks again
Cheers

Pre 2005 L322 have cd based sat nav systems. The mkIV BMW dvd version can be used in this car by simple plug and play. Dependant on wether you buy a BMW or Range rover version will determine which start up logo you see but both will work perfectly.

Cheers, if you get a RR one in for breaking please let me know.
