Hopefully someone can give me some advice, info.

Any help would be appreciated.

Having problems getting disco 1 300 tdi to start.

When I try to start it it just keeps turning over, dosnt even sound as though its trying to start, light for the imobiliser goes out when its turning over,

Its as if its not getting fuel, first time it happened it started with a tow, then the next day it just turned over but wouldnt start, gave it a minute or 2 and tryed it again, burst into life straight away,

Drove it for about 3 or 4 mile, parked up and went back out to start it,

Again it just refused to start, drained battery trying to start it,

Tryed to start it with a tow again but it just wasnt interested, refused point blank to start with a tow also,

Took the battery out to put a charged battery in,

Started on the second attempt, seemed to drive ok at first, then after maybe about 10 mile it started to have a bad flat spot when accelerating.

anyone got any ideas what this could be,

Could it be the imoboliser thats stopping it from starting,

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Lol

I dont think the fuel filter at the back of the disco has been changed for a long time, the one underneath at the chassis on the fuel line.

Brother said when he was welding it he noticed the filter looked f*cked. said he didnt want to touch it incase it fell to bits. its that bad,

Going to try by passing the filter at the fuel line underneath to see if it helps any, still got the filter under bonnet so should hopefully be ok by passing the one underneath

I thought it would still go though with a tow even if there was **** in the fuel.

Cheers Storm.

Appreciated

It'll just sit in the injectors and cause the issues you're having..i'd change all filters. Cheap as chips.

Sedimenter Isn't a filter your filter is next to your servo. Try it with easystart. Open airfilter and sray down the hole for 2 seconds. see if she kicks into life. If so change the filter. did this with mine but keep still bleeding air out of the system. Don't know if I went at it a bit gungho. anyway all ok now.

That is what it is Shocker.

The sedimentor, I personaly havnt seen it but I recon thats what it must be.

Thanks a lot for the link as that helps me out when we go to remove it.

Will see if my brother has a bit of clear hose and put that on as well.

Once again thanks Stoem and Shocker for the info from you both.

Yes Im going to try and get a filter tomorrow John, just change it anyway.

Even tryed taking filter off last night and filling it with fresh fuel then screwing it back on, never made a difference though,

Still wouldnt start

I dont think there was smoke from the exhaust when it was cranking over, not 100% sure though as we never checked,

Would that make a difference ?

I found problem with mine. turns over great but takes ages for it to kick in. then sometimes the tick over is low and stops. I cleaned sediment bowl. there were lots of gunk on the outside. inside was ok. when I put it back I cleaned the outside. Now I realize the gunk was a buildup of old diesel so had a leak. Now I cleaned it. It is letting air in. so every time I bleed the filter it's ok, then after a little while its the same. All the sedimenter does is trap water vapor and bits of crap before the filter therefore prolonging the life of the filter. But HEY for the price of them you can change it every 6 months. So do away with the sediment trap. It's one less thing to worry about, Thats what i'm going to do.

Think thats what Im going to do as well John, just do away with the sediment bowl, had a look at it last night and it was seized solid,

Just going to get a bit of fuel pipe and bypass it,

Just change filter more regularly, hoping this cures the problem,

Iv got a gut feeling it has something to do with the imobilisor though, as one minute it starts the next it dosnt,

When my brother took it home on Thursday night he disconnected the battery as the battery is a bit big and the positive terminal is pretty close to bodywork,

When he reconnected it the disco started first turn of the key.

As stated earlier. on the Thursday night it just refused to start, even with a tow, drained battery, changed battery over and it started after second turn of the fey no problem,

But the immobilisor wouldnt have anything to do with the flat spot it developed, so that must be down to fuel.

Change filter first anyway se how it goes,

The sedimentor is a very useful piece of kit in a diesel engine , time proven . The trouble is that LR put it in a bloody stupid place . There are many after market sedimentors available , some on twin mounts with a filter (if you can find space in the engine bay to fit it) that are much easier to come at and are clear so that one can see the state of the fuel .

However , if one only fuels from garage pumps and not cans and uses the vehicle on road in a posh first world country they can be done without , and many do . Without , that is .

Again however , one might want to consider a filter like the old peugeot one that has a water seperator chamber and indicator lamp or one with a clear bowl at the base . Or just sod it and change your filters more often and try to get the water drain on the bottom to actually work once in a while .

Just want to say cheers to Storm Shocker John and Ratty for all the info advice.

Bypassed sedimentor and changed filter.

Disco running ok now,

Well so Iv been told, brother still got it, lol.

He is fitting my bullbar tonight and taking middle box out the exhaust, not got the cat on it so thats a bit of work saved for him.

He has also just about renewed the full inner wing on the offside, changed batterys over and there was nothing there, inner wing was shagged basicaly, all sorted now though.

The Disco has been a bit of a sore arse to be honest but its geting there.

Once again guys the info was very much appreciated.

Cheers
