Pulled up outside the house, engine off, keys out. Came out 2 mins later, went to start, could hear it clicking but not turning over. Tried a couple of time, same. Left it a few minutes, tried it again, fired straight up! :-S what you think it could be?

Sounds like it could be the connection on the fuel cut off solenoid. Thin wire with spade end could be just hanging on for dear life.

Where would I find this?

I only know where it is on my 200tdi Defender but I had the same fault. On mine it is drivers side of engine just front of centre and fairly low down. Having said that if it's not turning over it will probably be the solenoid wire on the starter motor. Same, thin wire, spade end attached to starter motor.

Sounds very familiar. I had the very same symptoms on my Defender TD5 and it turned out to be a poor connection, corrected simply by wiggling the small, exciter wire to the starter solenoid (which I was shown by the RAC Man ...). Corrected in seconds. :)

Good luck!

That's the baby SC ... the exciter cable ;)

Ok pal just wondered with wires being mentioned in the other post. I'll have a look on the bay! Ta

If it needs the solenoid kit from ebay - it is a doddle to fit. I ordered one got up Saturday morning and my 15 year old son had already fitted it ! Starter works a treat now!
