Bit of advice here please folks, before i start going round in circles unbolting things.
Disco 200tdi.Went out the other evening and when i stopped and turned off the ignition the engine carried on so i stall stopped it. Turned out the ignition barrel had come apart. This is now fixed, but the starter motor is not turning the engine over. I can hear the solenoid click, but no start.
Is this just an unhappy coincidence or is there something simple i`m not seeing, inline fuse somewhere maybe, or has the ignition problem in some way effected the starter and killed it.
Anyone experienced this?Next step really is to take the starter out and have a look at it but it looks fiddly and if theres a simple thing i havent thought of then that will save some hassle.

Cheers. Andy.

you can test starter before removal by either arcing with screw driver or putting fresh wire to spade terminal and touching other end to top main lead fastening or battery, may be poor feed to solenoid ,poor solenoid or duff starter ,solenoids can be repaired by cleaning contacts or replaced

Thanks James i`ll check that out.

Starters toast.By the looks of things just getting home with a bodged up connection left the starter engaged and it burnt out in the 7 miles it took. It must have seized during this time as the flywheel has milled off the starter engagement teeth.
The flywheel teeth look ok from what i can see, and i`m hoping that they work on the principle that the easier to replace part, ie the starter teeth are of softer metal than those on the flywheel.Fingers crossed.
Looks like i`m off up the scrapper tomorrow, hoping theres a 200tdi engine on something.:(

i just bought solenoid connections off e bay ordered yeterday delivered this morn fitted this afternoon job done and only £9.95 and postage

Havent posted for a while, been really busy, but no joy at the scrapper. Both sad looking vehicles had been liberated of their starters, plus just about everything else.
The bay sorted me out.86 quid, and it arrived within 24 hrs with free postage no less.Had the day off and fitted it.Been running sweet as a nut since.
