Hi can an one tell me is ther much to changing a starting moter on a 1999 2ltr derv freelander as mine has packed up and would like to replace it my self

The hardest part of chenging the starter is getting to it, you need to remove the airfilter box, turbo pipes etc to get access. The starter is held on by two bolts which will need a 3/8" drive socket set with extention(s) to get to. A bit fiddly but do-able.
If the starter has failed due to a faulty solenoid, you can replace the terminals with parts bought from the USA for about £18 including postage but it takes a while for the parts to arrive. See my previous post http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f21/starter-motor-repair-41601.html
