maybe - but a solenoid and a relay are electrically identical - but yu is rite i did read relay as solenoid;)

Well iv dun a 200tdi conversion and I am having problems with starting it and some one said it mite be the starter switch or relay ?

do you see any volts across the starter? - either the big red wire or the little brown one?

ehh no i dont

ah well maybe that's why it's not working

have you got a circuit diagram ? (i'm assuming yer voltmeter is working) - you'll probably have to do some wire tracing but the solenoid feed will come from the ignition switch

you should have 12v on the big wire connected to the starter - it's the little brown one that's only live when you fire it up

Right theres power on the on the solenoid and a wire to the ignition and its earthed is there an thing elce i mite be missing and yeh i do have a wireing diagram but its the petro one so i think its Slightly Different

download the correct manual from here

LAND ROVER MANUALS DOWNLOAD

as i said before, and i'll say it again because it's not clear from you rpost which wire is live

you should have 12v on the big wire connected to the starter - it's the little brown one that's only live when you fire it up (turn the key)

There is power on the solenoid and no power on the starter so that must be it and i cant download those manuals it Does not Recognise the format.

try putting a screwdriver across the two terminals on the solenoid, if the engine turs over then you know the solenoid is shagged ;)

but make sure that it's out of gear or you may end up going for a little ride!

did he go offline after doing what yella suggested ? - wonder if he didnt read yer warning and is now embedded in a wall trapped by a series 3
