Hi all, having problems removing lower bolt on starter motor on 2002 1.8 freelander 1. Is it removed from top or underneath or through wheel arch.
 
I think you can remove it from above, You will have to remove the air cleaner assembly...
 
On the td4 you have to take the battery holder of I do not know if it is the same I can not find my book but I am sure you can get to the bolts from the front

1. Disconnect battery earth lead.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Disconnect Lucar connector from starter motor.
4. Remove nut and disconnect battery lead from
starter solenoid.
5. Remove lower nut and bolt securing starter
motor.
6. Remove bolt securing steady bar to engine LH
mounting.
7. Remove upper nut and bolt securing starter
motor.
8. Remove engine steady bar.
9. Remove starter motor.

Make sure you download the later manual for the 1.8/TD4 cars.

I've never taken the starter off a 1.8, but the Rave manual will give step-by-step instructions.
