My tiny pea brain is struggling to remember wiring on starter motor on Rover V8.

The large screw thread on back is for juice on motor, (?)

Spade is + ve for Soleniod, (comes from ignition switch?)

So question is can I wire motor juice striaght to battery, or do I have to use a sperate soleniod for motor?

Also any good ways of testing both parts of motor?

yes, yes, and yes. use jump leads to test, -ve to mount and +ve to either terminal. stand on it while you do

Just tested motor by:

soleniod spade to switch to battery positive

Motor screw thread from back of solenoid to batt positive (jump lead)

Bolt from motor (holds motor on to engine) to earth on battery (with jump lead).

Loud click from solenoid, but no whiring, vibration, or turning over. Motor is still on car...

...Have I missed somthing or is starter motor knackered?

Try connecting the positive jump lead direct to the little copper braided wire that comes out the side of the motor and the earth to the motor body

This bypasses the solenoid, gives you a true motor test.

Solenoid might need some use to make good contact, often they click hard but don't make good electrical contact

Cheers
