i know your probably fed up of hearing about my starter motor, but i solved the erratic starting problems, turns out it wasnt earther properly cos of corrosion on the earth strap that fixes to the chassis, but now its fine again apart from the starter motor keeps gettin stuck in the engaged position, so everytime i wanna start up i have to put it in gear push it a bit take it out of gear and then start up.....not very practical, any ideas?

take the starter motor off, strip it down, clean it up, try and stick it back together and see what like........

or go ask santa for a new one.

nope its not that old, i wish i did have one tho...

Check out that funny looking nut holding the lower pulley onto the front of your engine and that slotted hole in your bumper - guess what they are for. If you fold the front seats forwards you should see some spring clips - that's where the starting handle should be. It's not that difficult to start the 2 1/4 petrol engine on the starting handle, but I wouldn't fancy my chances with the diesel.

Health and safety warning: If you try starting it on the handle don't wrap your thumb around the handle, keep it out of the way, because if the engine backfires it could break your thumb.

is the what thoes bits of metal i found in the beast are for!!!!!? this may sound stupid but how do you work the handle theres 2 long bits of metal how do they go together to start it? this is good news lol yeah mines a diesel so may have to give it some! any other tips on startin it with the handle or pics would be good!

You only use one of those long bits of metal for starting the engine - one of them is a jack handle. Have a look in the owner's manual for starting instructions. I think Sean put a link to it in one of the threads you started. Since you've got a diesel I'd forget about it though. You might as well keep the starting handle in the cab though - it could come in handy if you are prone to road rage.;)

haha not much chance of road rage around here, maybe against the odd cow or sheep but nothing more!! yeah i got it in the cab atm just had no idea thats what it was for, excuse my naiveness as previously stated im new to the older landies!...
