remember, no throttle untill it fires. Make the starter moter work for its money.

i think that might be my problem, giving it throttle before it fires. it is not impossible to start but it does take more than average turnovers to fire. cheers for all help everyone...

i will give the glowplugs a good testing.

dont expect too much mate, these 19J TD engines are indirect injection, which means they will never start on the button anyway. My old one took 20 seconds of glowplugs, and still turned over for 5-10 seconds before firing! That was AFTER I replaced all the plugs!

YIPPEE!! I bin promoted from 19J to TDi!!! Got it goin in next week so no more 20 second iffy starts for me hopefully!!! All orderded and deal is done and dusted!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

But the 19J is a bit of a bugger on cold mornings, 20 secs then a pause then 20 secs (thanks CharlesY for that tip:D) does the job. and very important not to touch the arselerator else the cold start mechanism gets reset and the engine thinks it's trying to start warm when it isn't!

Way Hay - you'll ba able to keep up on the A30 then!
Who's fittin it fer yer?

Joe at DP found me a goodun (hopefully!) and is doing it next week, but not unfortunately in time for this weeekends fun - oh well, din't matter so much if i break the old one now - shall we have a game of test the limit of the 19J? (Might need a tow off you back to Bogmin!)

Unfortunately, the 19J is a strong injun - other bits will probably break first!
Still, you can try revvin the nuts off it to keep up.

Does the deal include Joe keeping the old injun? Otherwise, you should get a few quid fer it on flea-bay.

Dunno, i'll have to ask him - although you're lucky to get £50 for em, and i could do with it not round here at the mo as we're trying to keep the place tidy to sell!

Revvin the nuts off of it don't help in the keepin up stakes, if it hits a hill it's had it - was trying that today!

I said i wanted a new clutch while the engine's out - for a proper genuine heavy duty part, what would you expect to be added to the price to fit it at the same time?

Dunno what the parts cost is fer genuine - less than a ton I'd have thought.
Shouldn't add more than half an hour to the labour.

Might be worth getting the fork arm reinforced while he's at it.

His price includes a new reinforced arm and it's (all in) about £130, but that's a HD kit (which apparently has 8 springs?) - havinbg never replaced the clutch and having seen borkg and becks for around the £30 mark, at first i thought it was steep but after thinking about it it's probably worth doing! He's gonna do the cam belt as well.

just looked on fannycraddocks and they're 85 plud the vat so that's probably not too bad - dunno what the difference is between them and the borg n beck ones though, but prob best to go for the OEM

u have to change the flywheel housin ova from the 19J to the tdi engine anyway, which means clutch off....flywheel off...so he shouldnt charge anymore to put a new clutch on than it is to put the original one back on...makes no odds to him

make sure he fits the clutch out of a 130, am sure that has the eight springs - it's lots more dosh than a cheapo standard britpart jobbo but it will last n last an last

also dont dismiss the value of a used 19J, even thou people do give them away - remember they come apart and the value of the starter + alternator + head isnt just £50 - althought that's about all he will offer

To be fair he did tell me that, the cost of the new clutch was the only additional cost, and they are £130 odd as supplied by LR but i think you can get them cheaper off of fleabag

hmmm...might see if i can get that back...only prob is that we're trying to sell up and doris (probably rightly but i'd never let on) suggested that lots of bits of landrover all over the place might not be a good selling point and might put people off - i couldn't disagree more and it would certainly sell a house to me but maybe just a little bit she does have a point!

O-Up, Dont You Be Criticising Now!
It's Just A Habbit, Always Have Capitalised Every First Letter, But Nevermind.
I Apologise If It's Annoying Anyone.

I think i'll let him put in the clutch he suggested, it ain't a lot more dosh and he'll probably do a better job if i indulge him and don't make him think i'm whingeing about every tiny thing, and it's within me budget so i'll just look forward to not having to worry about the clutch or cambelt for a while! (oh yeah and the well advertised advantage of the 200!!!):D

If yer wanna keep the old injun, yer kin store it in me garidge temporarily.
