Hi all, i got a 1988 90, its had new piston bearings and rings about 900 miles ago and still struggles to start in the mornings, but once shees had a nice run to the shops, she will start fine for the rest of the day, no smoke at all only on first start! is this normal? or something wrong, any thoughts??

cheers...

yeh sory 2.5td, glow plugs looked alright when a bought it a week ago, il give them a check though cheers.

Do you give it any throttle when you try to start it?

(i'm starting to sound like a scratched record aren't i?:D)

Take the glow plugs out.
Put 12v across them straight from a good battery.
They draw a hefty current so a torch battery aint going to do it.
They should glow chery red at the tips within a few seconds.
If they glow half way along then they are on their way out.
If you hold them in your fingers remember they get very hot (red hot if working ok).
Dont ask me how I know - I just do.

I have a poor living out of this if I did.

You've only had it a week fella, learn how to start it. do a search on correct starting etiquate, etikate, etticate......technique.

Lol, Listen To Those Guys, They Know What Their Talking About,
However I Had Troub With Mine, And The Bloke Before Me Had Altered The Tickover Speed On The Throttle Cable, So My Cold Start Wasnt Working.

So If When Your Starting Up From Cold, You've Done The Whole Hold The Glow Plugs On For A Couple Of Seconds (Up To 20 I've Found) (Depends How Cold It Is) And It's Still A Bugger To Start. Then They Could Have Changed The Tick Over On The Throttle Which Takes Cold Start Off Totally Making It Near Impossible To Start The Landy.

Well Theres My 2 Cents
