My new dilemma, is whether or not to keep standard height, or go for the next ones up that raise about 20mm rear and 30mm front, as then I can get away with keeping the same shocks etc, and not putting any real stress on prop shaft and needing brake lines extending, but getting the benefit of a slightly raised suspension...

Any thoughts???

I think I'll probably go down that route too, my disco's arse is looking a bit low and I think that a mini lift might be a good idea

Was wanting HD's anyway and some new shocks to firm up the ride a bit as it rolls a lot

Try a phone call to you're insurance company to see if it will cost more having a lift, then decide..

Insurance company is fine with the lift - as checked that when I initially got my insurance with Adrian Flux ;)

Right, I am sorted - have ordered:-

Bearmach Heavy Duty Blue Springs - BA 2103 - rear with 20mm lift
Bearmach Heavy Duty Blue Springs - BA 2104 - front with 30mm lift

I know I said I wanted standard, but with these I wont need any further modification, and will give me a little extra which will help when I bang on my new expedition rack ;) plus my insurance company were fine with this.

All in all, inc vat and delivery came out at £117.90 from 4x4 autoparts online. they guy I spoke to was very helpful and knowledgeable too - so far I would certainly recommend then (and no I have no connection with them).

If you just want standard height then you need:-

Bearmach Heavy Duty Blue Springs - BA 2106 - rear with 0mm lift
Bearmach Heavy Duty Blue Springs - BA 2105 - front with 0mm lift

They too come out at the same price.

Am going to try and fit them myself - well with help from a friend, so will keep you posted on how we get on.

Managed to get the rear springs fitted tonight, not a bad job to do really. First side took longer as i worked out the best way, and then the second side only about 30 mins.

I just took off the top bolt from the shock to remove it, then the 2 bolts holding on the spring at the bottom, then out pops the spring. Also used a little bottle jack to help get a bit of movement in the axle to help removal and fitting the springs ;)

Before the gap between top of tyre and arch was 11cm, now its around 14.5cm, so guessing it will settle down a bit over the next month or so, so looking at a nice inch increase plus the benefit of new hd springs and not prob 17 year old springs with 150k miles under their belts.

Just waiting for my mate now to help on the fronts, as he has a spring compress ;) then another job done :D

Hi there

Just out of interest why have you got +30mm springs for the front and +20mm springs for the rear?
Just I would presume you would get same height for both ends or the rears would be longer or am I just having a blonde moment??
Not still might buy the standard height bearmach springs for mine that's a bloody good deal! :)
Cheers
Robb

That's how they come, guessing its to compensate for bull bar/winch bumper/steering guard etc, as you have more weight over the front....

You should not of been charged for delivery as they state all orders over £50 are free delivery..

I would be interested to hear how you get on with this set up.. :)

With ringing up I got the whole lot cheaper, as on the net came to £126.00 ;)

Will do - at present it looks like a dragster, sitting high at the back, and very low at the front :D

front doesnt need the same as the axle has more rotation (spring plate sits at an angle),if you get the same front back front sits higher

One thing I forgot to say when I was fitting the rear springs, as noticed that one bump stop had disappeared, and then other was only just hanging on!

So picking up 2 new ones today to fit them on - only £3.00 each, bargain :D Reckon it will also be easier to buy a few new nuts and bolts too and just grind the others off, after having a quick look at them....

Hi guys,

Just in the middle of changing my front springs, and the largest decent spanner i have is a 19cm which doesn't fit, and there is no room to get a socket on (which you can on the rear) so does anyone know what size spanner i need so i can nip out and get on?

Cheers

Yup, 19mm, just had a load of crud still on it, but springs all done, and sitting very nicely :D

On the testing of shockers - my D1 rides very high (id expect it to with 50k Mls on it) but IMHO rides like crap. On the bounce test when rocked as hard as i can it takes 1 further bounce after i let go to settle, maybe less but its deffo not totally instant - however the ride on rough roads does seem very harsh for a 4x4 (my old Isuzu trooper would have been far better) as if they are too solid - not a suspension expert so advice welcome!!

Right then, as its nice and sunny for a change, managed to park up in the same place as when I took the before pics, and here are the results...

All in all, pleased with the results, as not sitting like a monster off roader, but high enough for what I need it for, and with only about an inch increase, should not need any other work to brake lines, prop etc, and might even look at 75 walls next time I fit tyres, as got 70's on at present.

Will be testing it out at the Land Rover show this coming weekend on the Extreme Course, so will let you know how it performs ;)

Only problem fitting was the drivers side nut on the bottom of the shock started to round off, so took us a while to finally get that off, and a new nut later, job was done.
