I had the same problem with the Open Air i bought earlier this spring.
I took off the steering wheel, disconnected and checked the rotary coupler without finding anything with it and put everything back together - and now the SRS light goes out the way it should after the ignition is turned on :)
 
Often SRS faults are caused by dirty contacts on the various connectors. Often simply un-plugging and re-connecting the plugs is good enough to cure the fault.
 
some srs for short or supplemental restraint system come on with the ignition switch and will only go off when doing 5mph the later freelanders go off as you start up i would try jonaf suggestion as this happend to the wife car.
