Checked SRS fuse 23 and fine,
fuse 18 fine
connections all look good under the drivers seat.

last guess is the clock spring? Im assuming theres not much to these other than seat-belt tensioners and clock springs. anything im missing?

I've just done steering rack could this be linked? maybe ive nudged it.
Can i disconnect the clock spring to see if light goes out ? not to sure how these systems work or how to fault find without expensive diagnostic gear.

No, the SRS module looks for the resistance of the ignitor at the end of the wires. If the resistance isn't within a tight tolerance, then it puts the light on.
The only sure way to find out what is causing the fault is to run a diagnostic on the SRS module.
It knows exactly what the issue is, and a code read is the only way you will too.

LR specific code readers that work start from about £130 for an Icarsoft LR- V2, which will rear all the modules on the vehicle, and isn't much more expensive than having codes read just once at a garage.
 
Interestingly I have an occasional SRS light on my 2000 MY V6.



All my code readers say no fault codes!!

I am watching it, but appears to come on when on full lock so suspect clock spring.

I missed that. Did you rotate the steering wheel while changing the rack?
Did you centre the steering before removing the rack? Did you centre the replacement rack perfectly before fitting to the column coupler?

If any the answer is those was no, then it's likely the clock spring has been over wound and failed.
Does the horn and radio controls still work?
 
I have just had my srs ligh pop up. Have just changed the steering wheel and passenger seat. Cables all reconnected. As I'm working at a few other things. I'm leaving this to later diagnosis and repair, but watching this thread.

thanks for your reply's gives me somewhere to hunt and a bit more info.

i did have a very good read on the service manual and it says there is no way to test basically if you check resistance with a volt meter they are likely to go off "SO DONT DO IT" lol. Another warning is before working on these systems best to disconnect the battery . friend thinks he has one of these readers so will wait and give that a try. These are non serviceable parts so under no circumstance try to repair just replace Anything related to the SRS system will be yellow plugs or wire shields so fairly easy to locate

As far as the steering was moved when replacing the rack yes possibly so could be over wound, was also hit with some force to get off. Its been sitting so long i cant remember if came on before or after the rack. Also i re centred everything was about 2 full turns in ether direction. daym wish i had locked in place now.

Another thing to note is this is a HSE model so under both seats there a cd changer and cd player not an easy job to get to ether of the front seat belt pre tensioners. the car has sat for some years and i have moved thee seats quite a bit too including the rears to fix an issue with the back door.

ill link the service manual for other as well. funny feeling its steering wheel air bag! Can be found under "Restraint Systems page 75-1" IT states as well these should be replaced on a 15 year basis.

As above, if horn has also failed then likely you've wrecked the clock spring wiring.

Whilst never check airbags with ohmmeter, when clock spring is out and disconnected it is a simple 6 or so way cable which can be resistance checked from input connector to output connector.
 
OK, sounds likely. If the steering wheel is not central when changing rack then when you hit full lock one way or the other you rip the ribbon cable from its mounts. It is literally a clock spring of ribbon cable which winds and un winds as you turn the steering wheel.

To change or remove it, 10 mins of battery disconnected, remove air bag from steering wheel, 2 x torx screws at rear of wheel. Unplug airbag. Remove steering wheel. Unplug clock spring mech. With Centred steering with wheels straight ahead. Fit new clock spring while white spot shows. You will see this, if you turn it gently by hand it comes and goes when not in straight ahead position. White spot means straight on position.

Fit steering wheel and airbag. Recon battery.
 
Just to make things more complicated, new clock springs haven't been available for a number of years, so you'll be looking for a working second hand one.

Next time you change a steering rack in any car. Make sure it's centred, and remove the key so the wheel can't turn more than a few degrees. ;)
 
well code reader worked a charm Air bag resistance to high , horn not working so going to change clock spring see if solves the codes. Yes im sure there will be a next time but this time i wont have to weild nuts on to bolts to remove the rack :D I did also put the battery on a repair cycle but after 3 days and 80% i thought would start her up as ive heard repair cycles can take a week.
I might also add that the horn works when alarm goes off just not through the steering wheel buttons

So mine is fixed, don't know about original poster?
Interrogation of codes showed no codes. SRS light on when starting then off then on.
sometimes it went out until I hit full lock.
Changed clock spring, reset the fault codes, even though there were none. Light now goes out and stays out.
Here's hoping.

How is OP getting on ??

Sorted. Once I reconnected everything, fitted new rear brake piston and brake fluid. Light went out....that's a relief...
 
My mate scrapped his FL a few years ago and he let me have a few parts off it. One of the parts I took was the the clock spring in anticipation of a future failure and having difficulty finding a replacement. Interesting to see pattern ones are available though.
