Yes, get it on a diagnostic tool and get the codes read as already suggested. With SRS systems there is very little you can do without a code read - bar replacing expensive parts in a shotgun manner.Hi guys took plugs apart under seat and cleaned connectors took battery off for half hour still srs light is on any more ideas pls
will if its to pass the new MOT regs the light needs to go out or not work at all.
I know it as my car failed last month on the same thing.
I checked all the wires and found nothing wrong with them.
So how did i get around this, well:
Parts needed are a PH2 screw driver, tissue paper and a black felt tip pen.
1)I stripped the dash apart (not to hard only 4 screws around the Instrument panel) then take the cover off the top, there a few more screws inside on brackets.
2)disconnect the wires on the Instrument panel (one on each side), put the Instrument panel on a work bench or table.
3)unclip the front on the Instrument panel so you can get the to the dials and there is a black strip thats runs along the bottom.
4)make a note of where the srs light is and remove the black strip to reveal a cone shape area with a led light at the bottom, now stuff it with tissue paper.
5)colour the paper with a black felt tip pen.
6)but it all back together, plug the wires back in and start your car, if you can not see the light now then its job done and put your dash back together.
7) re MOT your car and this time it will pass!
The MOT computer will tell the tester if SRS is fitted, if the light does not do the self test it should be a failwell my car passed after doing it.
if there is no light there how can they check to see if its working. not all cars have i light on the dash.
Each MOT testing station has 2 or 3 very large posters, easily visible to all.The MOT computer will tell the tester if SRS is fitted, if the light does not do the self test it should be a fail
The ABS one would not work on a P38, the ABS light does not go out until the vehicle reaches about 7mph.Each MOT testing station has 2 or 3 very large posters, easily visible to all.
One of them covers key instrument lights, such as ABS, SRS etc. For each year of car, the correct indication is listed, such as -
ABS <on> 5 secs delay <off>
SRS <on> 3 secs delay <off)
etc.
The ABS one would not work on a P38, the ABS light does not go out until the vehicle reaches about 7mph.
It's a bit old tech then, here the tester enters the registration number, compares the VIN that comes up with the log book and it then tells him the details step by stepAnd that is what it would say, for that vehicle, on the chart.
