Start the engine and spray some WD-40 on the belt, if the squealing stops then it's almost certainly the belt.
However on mine the tensioner was siezed. Put a spanner on the tensioner and move it to see if it has siezed. This freed mine off and it's been fine since.
I've changed the belt twice on my Defender TD5's (l've got a 90 and a 110) without removing the fan.
lt's a bit fiddly but can be done. To release the tension, put a ring spanner on the tensioner and use it to release the spring tension, then hook the spanner under the radiator hose.
The belt will just fit round the front of the lower pulley.
