i have a 1995 2.5tdi disco,a strange squeaking /sqeeling noise appeered today only when i accelarate though,upto 5th then stops any idea?

Check for leaks in inlet hoses and manifold is the easiest first thing to do.

It would be better if you could tell us were the noise is coming from. Engine? gearbox? elsewhere?

Could be slack belts,
e.g. if you can turn the alternator wheel without the belt moving then it's slack

Had similar on mine a while back. I thought it was belt squeal but it turned out to be the manifold gasket had blown.

hi found the problem its the drive belt tensioner so ive got another one on order and new belts so should be done by monday, thanks for all your replys:)

Hi there, I know you've already got your parts an' all, but there's an ebay seller (called P. Senior Trading I think) who sells just the part you're after. The problem is the belt tensioner, as you correctly diagnosed, but the actual bit that's 'gone' is the bearing inside the belt tensioner itself. Had similar squeak with mine, got replacment bearing and it fixed the squeak straight away. I don't know what the price difference is, and it's neither here nor there now, but just thought I'd say this in case anyone else looks at this thread to see what their problem is.
