Help. Hi I've got a 1998 1.8 Petrol estate Freelander which I love. I admit its had two new head gaskets and about to have its third (any way of slowing down the replacement of these?!) but thats not why I'm here... I have a constant squeak, squeak, squeak coming I think from the rear of the car. Braking, or acceleration makes no difference to the noise - its constant. My husband thinks it may be the ird unit or something to do with the drivetrain... it really sounds like it needs a lot of oil somewhere. I only have another week of warranty on the car and would really appreciate some advice or hints as to the noise. Many thanks.

check your rear subframe bolts apparently they come loose and squeak or the sub frame cracks so just have a good luck for any cracks and check the bolts for tightness

HGF - are you having this repaired properly - i.e. new pattern head gasket replacement with metal pins rather than plastic? Modified thermostat?

Squeek - report it quick if it is still in warranty - the HG too if you fear for it.

Cheers

Hi

Sorry for delay in replying... we ended up taking the whole prop off and driving round for a bit without it. When we put it all back on, my husband oiled all the bits and touch wood, no more noise... take it it was the IRD unit???
