I wasn’t sure how it would turn out but also didn’t want to buy two more clusters so jumped in with both feet on the ones on my truck! Thankfully it seems to have worked...

The projectors are just eBay specials, cost me about £60 for the four plus about a tenner in customs charges.

Well, had an eventful day last week, self inflicted really...

As said previously, I had stuck on temporary ride height sensor brackets made of 0.5mm aluminium with “no more nails” as a way of recommissioning my air suspension to check that it all works... unfortunately the no more nails was stronger than the paint on the chassis and kind of dropped off on one side... whilst I was driving home... only about half a mile away from home... I thought that I’d get home and sort it... then about 50 yards from home... KA-BOOM!

It was that loud I heard someone scream!!

Thankfully, I’d spent the grand total of £10 on four second hand air bags in order to test the system so it only cost me £2.50! :),

A quick change of air bag and cable tie said bracket to the chassis got me through the weekend...

Cue and order to my favourite supplier JSG 4x4 and two new Dunlop bags arrived yesterday and this afternoon I visited a good friend who fabricated A couple of more substantial brackets (3mm steel! :cool: It’s what he had available...) and welded them to the chassis and whilst the wheels were off I replaced both air bags with the new items. Hopefully that is that for a few years for the SLS... :),
 
On a side note, I’ve employed a new servant by the name of Alexa and I have to say I’m very impressed so far!

It turned out she was one of triplets so I’ve now got her and her sisters (also called Alexa) in my living room, kitchen and bedroom!

I’ve also got a couple of smart sockets and a smart multi plug so with one command she switches on/off various items like side lights, chargers, tv etc with ease!

She is far more responsive and respectfully than my ex-wife (and a whole lot cheaper too!) I would highly recommend her and will be expanding her abilities to controlling my home lighting before too long too! :)
 
I’ve been a little quiet again lately sorry, partly because I’ve not been doing a huge amount of work on my truck but that is about to change!

I’m waiting for a whole host of deliveries, the better part of a grand!, revolving around two primary purchases. A Dixon Fabrication front winch bumper After I bolloxed my original on some concrete steps on an off-road day and of course I had to get a winch to fit it too! My choice has been the terrafirma A12000 for two main reasons, the remote relay pack and the dyneema rope instead of a steel wire.

I’ve also brought some correctly rated cable and mega fuses along with new lugs and a hydraulic crimp tool make new cables to rewire my aux battery and add an Anderson connector at the front (with isolator relay) for easy access for jump-starting (other peoples) vehicles.

Dixon Fab have a crazy 50 working day lead time for bumpers which whilst frustrating, I’m taking that as a good indication of the quality of his work and reinforcement of his great reputation. I’m sure the wait will be worth waiting for. I’m planning on a bit of paint work to the bumper before fitting so watch this space!
 
I’ve had another couple of work days on the truck this week. I checked the red plug the other day and had oil in it so ordered an injector loom and gasket from JGS 4x4 which arrived promptly as ever with them. So got that job done. Whilst I was at it, I went mad and sprayed the rocker cover body colour!

I’ve also (after the best part of a couple of years...) got around to tidying up/upgrading the wiring from 16mm2 to 25mm2 for the t-max split charger as well as adding some fuses that I should have installed from the beginning.

I’ve also got a terrafirma A12000 winch to install once the bumper arrives from Dixon Fabrication, hopefully in the next week or so!

Slowly getting towards where I want to be with it before the big galvanised chassis job comes into sight!
 
Well, the Dixon Fabrication bumper has been sat on my living room floor for the last couple of weeks since it arrived but it is now fitted! I have to say I’m very impressed with it and very happy it’s finally on!

Next job is chopping out the cross piece at the bottom of the grill and fitting the winch and the Anderson connector! That’s tomorrow assuming the wether remains dry.

Yeah, it sure is! I’ve just brought a thermal, waterproof overalls so that I can be at least a bit more comfortable when it really turns cold as I have no garage to work in.

I couldn’t help but have a bit of a tinker this evening tho...

Needs a little shuttering of some sort to control the light spill a bit but it’ll certainly stand out from the crowd!

Another afternoon working on it, Terrafirma A12000 winch fitted and wired in (internal on/off switch still to do) and an Anderson connector installed (that will also have an internal switch/relay once they arrive) to save lifting the bonnet and removing the battery cover when needing to jump start others.

Hi all,

I can’t quite believe that it’s been almost 2 years since I’ve posted on this thread!

The truck is still going well and I’m now in the process of planning a major overhaul in the shape of a Maer chassis along with everything that is needed with it such as bushes, suspension, fuel/brake/ace/steering pipes etc and a few other shiny parts and upgrades such as Ashcroft auto box and torque converter upgrades, potentially air lockers etc, I’m anticipating perhaps £10k or more for the work but it will be a 30 year plus truck with little problems (hopefully but it is a Land Rover…)

Watch this space for further updates!
 
Sounds good, I'm looking to do similar with mine, already got the new flexplate needed to get mine going ;)
 
Well, looking at my previous recent posts, I have been going work on the truck but clearly not been keeping things up to date on here.

One major project that I have had rumbling on is upgrading all the LED Strobes. The first job was fabricating some new mounting brackets, these were made from about 2mm aluminium.

These were then installed under the roof rack with upgraded LED strobes from Response Vehicle Lighting.

I’ve also hidden some LED marker lights in the brackets that are relatively subtle when off but make the size of the vehicle very clear at night;

As you can see, it’s not at all subtle when lit up!
 
I have also, as part of the strobe upgrade project I have also installed an WoodWay Optilink controller for the LED strobes. This is the same as is used in some emergency service vehicles and is a basic smart controller. Allowing me to turn on/off individual elements of the lighting such as the front of the roof rack, the back of the roof rack, the rear clusters, the front grill etc. but the big improvement is that I can hit one button to turn on all the amber strobes in one go and also another button turns on all the ambers, rear reds and the white "scene lighting" on either side of the roof rack.

Although in many ways the system is fairly straight forward, it also involved custom building a relay/fuse board...

This is the "remote" control handset that makes life a lot easier to control it all once set up;

My next challenge is to make the marker lights work with the indicators and brake lights... I didn't realise that the lights on D2's are negative switching so I wired the marker lights for positive switching... That'll teach me to research more in the planning stages! Well, it won't... but at least I will actually consider it an issue next time...
