Not really. AsThat's worth doing on any car.
Is there a way to get it to Default to this when you start the car? I know on other makes you often buy something or mod a few wires to do similar things.
Curious, considering probably 99.8% of all automatics the world over are used like this. Do you have examples of failures or issues because of it? As said, I use the handbrake when the ground isn't level. But I've personally never ever heard a real world story of using only Park to cause a problem. And we've probably had 50-70 automatics over the years.

4.6 V8 the diesel is a slug by comparison. Is this in a petrol of diesel? When i select 's', you still have to hoof it to change down, it just drops 2 gears instead of one and holds that great longer.
I find it much more efficient to tickle the throttle to encourage a downshift and drive accordingly, most of the time
If things weren't an issue, it wouldn't be an AUTOMATIC in the first place..... QED.No.
And to be fair considering you have to move the selector to make the old P38 move i'd hazard giving the S button a prod isn't that much of an issue.
huh?If things weren't an issue, it wouldn't be an AUTOMATIC in the first place..... QED.
If someone is too lazy to change gear themselves, then surely extra button pushes are also a step too far.... (BTW - I much prefer manuals!)huh?
Hmm never understood the appeal of manuals, but i'd say that owning an auto doesn't make you lazy.If someone is too lazy to change gear themselves, then surely extra button pushes are also a step too far.... (BTW - I much prefer manuals!)
More fun, more engaging, more enjoyable and usually better economy.Hmm never understood the appeal of manuals
Have to say I like a manual in a Land Rover too. We have a 3.9 litre V8 90 with a 5 speeder. But I find this with all cars pretty much. Years back we had a 3.6 manual XJ40 Jaguar, which was freaking awesome. So much better to drive than a 4.0 litre auto. Not so much in a landy, but in a more agile car, having the gearbox change gear part way into a corner is most off-putting.
Lost the back end in the merc more than once!!
Unless the drivers a lazy cnut.No.

I just use the gear lever on hills to drop to third manually4.6 V8 the diesel is a slug by comparison.
It runs ok in the normal mode, but there are some hills round here where it labours too low in the revs, then has to drop 2 gears instead of one just to maintain the speed limit. Or you have to provoke it with a large throttle input, but then hard to not exceed the speed limit. In sport mode you only need to flex your toe and it'll kick down 1 gear instead of two, but then allow you to easily stick at the speed limit. In this situation I'm sure sport would be more fuel efficient, not to mention just nicer to drive.
In general sport mode allows you to drive it on the throttle. Lift off and it'll upshift, so you don't need to see higher rpm than normal mode. But the entire vehicle is far more responsive for part throttle applications. Flat out wide open throttle, sport and normal mode are the same, they both run to the red line. It's the part throttle response that is so much more improved, letting it be in the right gear more of the time.
In Sport mode there is no need to manually intervene though. Sort of defeats being an auto if you have to manually intervene. Also aren't you a diesel? Which to be fair will be driving differently to a V8.I just use the gear lever on hills to drop to third manually
