Hello,

Just put a deposit on a 2006 (55) sport 2.7. It's got 130k motorway miles. Are they are better in terms of reliability than my L322 4.4.

What should I look out for on them? Would anyone recommend a remap?

Thanks

The electric handbrakes are fun:eek: Think that's the one that needs the body off to do the turbo's:eek::eek:

Knocking suspension as its a heavy car, cambelt due at 105k and can be expensive. Some jobs are body off although i believe some people have found ways around this.
Make sure all the bits work.
Wear lucky underpants, and carry a 4 leaf clover, leprechaun and a rabbits foot just to be on the safe side everytime you go for a drive.

Thanks for quick reply. Electric handbrake works. Anything else to check? Wheel bearings and wishbones are all new.

Hahahahaha camping with animals. I'd stick to my L322 for that bit :)
Cambelts haven't been changed as far as I'm aware.

Wheel bearings & wishbones are new because they only last 5 minutes. You need to watch the electric handbrake or you may find it tries to stop you in the fast lane, lots of reports of problems.
Obviously, being a Land Rover product, check everything electrical works and that the boot is dry.

Seller says it made a clunking/rattling noise when you went over ramps. Only gave £250 deposit so willing to leave it if u guys say so :)

They do seem to have a pretty poor reputation, worse even than the L322, do a bit of searching.

As all of above, check everything on it works. As said, bushes /wishbones wear heavily on them as they do with the D3... (The RR sport is a D3 underneath) Personally I love the D3's and would have one over a sport but couldn't afford a V6HSE and the L322's were better value hence I ended up with one :D
The TDV6 is a lovely smooth quiet engine. Budget and IMO replace cam belts, they can be done with body in situ.

I wouldn't not buy one because of the known issues, there is a hell of a lot of them out there but just beware, like the L322 if/when it goes wrong it will cost £££

HTH :)

Lower arm bushes wear
Wheel bearing wear
Park brake fails due to incorrectly adjusted shoes or seized pivots
Arc bars leak both front and rear
D bushes wear
Rear upper arm bushes wear
Air compressors wear check for the updated amk version
Egrs are prone to failing
Alternator going and taking battery with it
106k or 7yrs for cam belt
150k all gearbox and axle oils are due
150k coolant due
Turbo shut off valves tend to seize more so on the 3.0v6
Rear brake pipes corrode

the electric handbrake working itself in the 3rd lane of the m6 also cutting out in the third lane of the m6 for no reason at all both happened on my cousins. frightened to go on the motorway at all now

They are bad for brake lines, ive a friend who used to work for Land Rover and the pictures of 5/6 year old sports and D3's in for brake line replacement with the body of was awful.

So how do you fix the motorway shut down problem if it gets it? Is there a faulty part that's replaced with a new one?

So you put a deposit down on a car, then come on here and ask what the potential issues are with them ??!

Nice engine - better than the 3.0. Bimmer lump - but I don't see the point of buying a rebodied Disco 3 - just buy a Disco 3 and get the extra practicality thrown in. IMHO the L322 is a nicer car.
