Hello all , since getting my freelander i have found the speedo poor to read in certain lighting conditions , i think L R could have done better job on the dials etc , even the green backlight , when the lights are on , are not that bright , and theres no ajustment , A friends new nissan dash lights and dials were very good , made mine look like the black hole , any way , i thought id share this mod , i used a led head torch , removed the battery holder , soldered up a lenth of two core wire to a 9v battery , fitted it to the dash with a sticky pad , and it works a treat , I only use it when its needed :)

FORGOT THE PHOTO

Well, thats... one way of doing it I guess... a bit ghetto perhaps? :p

Personally Id have replaced the LEDs/bulbs behind the dials with some funky looking high powered ones.

That is pikey as fcuk....Would expect to see that sort of thing from a night-shift taxi driver running a 400,000 miles clapped out Vectra.

hahaha that's an idea, i would have taken it out on the steering cowl and give it a slight tilt to illuminate the whole lot

Why not just tape a Maglite or similar to your head and that way the light becomes portable:p

I don't find the dials or the illumination a problem. Ok by modern LED lit dash displays they are rather poor but I don't find them bad enough to require a torch to ilumate them.

This works for me at present , until i can find something to iluminate the full cowl , and conect it to the cars 12v system , mind you i dont fancy taking the dash to bits , this is the Mk 3 version :D inproving all the time !

are you sure all the illumination bulbs are working, I've never noticed a problem with mine or any of the other freelanders I've driven. One bulb out leads to that area being dim, but it's not a problem I've noticed.

you could connect 6 leds in series powered by a 7805 fed by 12v. take out the steering cowl and fix them with hot glue facing the dash (obviously) problem solved ;)
