Hi guys I’m really hoping someone can help me out as I’m stuck, my P38 speedo intermittently stops working and when it does it also stalls when approaching a junction and ends up stuck in 3rd and the gearbox fault displays on the dash, I’m sure all the problems come from having no speed signal and I’ve swapped out the speed sensor from the transfer box for a known good one but the problems persist, does anybody know where to go from here?

Regards Boy

I guess yours is auto, my p38 was manual and have been towed in it with no prop shafts on back or front (long story) and the speedo still working I would say the speedo picks up its info off the abs no doubt @wammers might pop in and confirm or otherwise for me.

Yeah there are loads of threads saying about the abs but they have the abs light on too and I don’t have that symptom unfortunately

Diagnostics might throw up some help. Gearbox fault can be given by low volts or stalling so is probably a red herring. The stalling isn't usual though. Have you had alternator fault crop up at all? Is the battery good?

I’ve used our snap on diagnostics scanner at work but it shows no codes, haven’t had alternator fault crop up and battery has been fine as far as I’m aware

There are several members on here that would probably be willing to help with diagnostic kit.
Put your general location up.

That would be great, However i’m In a bit of a rush as I’m towing my caravan for a week in the new forest with the family a week from today so really need this sorting ASAP

Well that’s why that made no difference then, so am I right in thinking the ecu will store info that only the likes of testbook/nanocom can decipher?

Well you had me worried I thought you were dropping out of your Speedo's

I will try to find someone with testbook or nanocom diagnostics near me

I am in Aylesbury which isn't that far from you. I've got a Nanocom. I don't have the Thor unlock codes so if your engine is post-98 I won't be able to get engine codes except via a general ODB2 scanner. GEMS and EDC I can read.

Thanks for all the help chaps, and thank you Grrrrrr for the offer I might take you up on it but I’m taking it to a guy that’s really clued up on these trucks that is just a few miles from me first, hopefully tomorrow.
I’ll let you know what he finds.
