Is there any way in which I can alter the speedo reading if I were to fit larger wheels and tyres?

I have seen the speedo correction kit, but that looks like a pain in the ass to fit.

It's not something I've done personally but I'm pretty sure there is a correction facility in the BCU software - you'll need a dedicated LR diagnostic terminal to access it though.
 
The speedo is controlled by a sensor in the Tbox and I believe you can get different versions of this.

Ooh - that's good timing with a new TBox sitting on the bench. Anybody know if there are part numbers? I'm fitting a standard Defender 1.410 Box to a Disco auto with 34.5" tyres.
 
frc3310 blue speedo drive is lrs choice for largest tyre

A quick search leads me to FRC3310 | Speedo Drive Gear Def Ds1 - Land Rover Part FRC3310 which says "Speedo drive gear with part number FRC3310. Fits Defenders and Discovery 1. Blue with 20 teeth for vehicles with 750x16 tyres".

750/16 are 31" I think? That must give me a better reading than one designed for 29" standard tyres.

NO, you can't do that on a D2, there's no built in option for that cos it's a PWM signal from the ABS ECU(unfortunately biglad in post #2 is wrong), only a speedo correction unit will do that but not any, there are some which will not work so you must get one which is confirmed for D2, also if it's automatic you must connect it as to affect the transmission ECU too or there will be a missmatch between the VSS in the engine ECU and EAT ECU and the shifting will suffer... BUT if the vehile is fitted with ACE you must isolate that from the corrected signal cos it will disturb the ACE ECU... doable but not very easy

Always a good idea to read the tread first, isn't post #2 any help?

Sort of I understand the whole square wave baseline signal and was hoping rather than over complicating the situation it might be a simple case of adjusting something in the binacle.

As mentioned above Sierrafera pointed out that most box of tricks don't work and it's directly linked to the abs system most info I found online is from up to 10 years ago I thought there might be a new development for 2015 :)

I'm trying to adjust my Speedo because I have 33" tyres after a lot of googling I found myself back here on this thread and seems as its the most recent it was worth resurrection. The op asks how to adjust the Speedo on the discovery 2 and apart from a vague post about software it soon descended into a discovery 1 Speedo thread. Info on that is all over the internet the only info I can find on the disco 2 talks about little boxes of tricks that yield dubious results. I was hoping that maybe someone might be able to shed more light on the subject and there for help other people in the future.

OK I see where you are coming from now. It's been a little while since I did this, but I'm pretty sure that if you have a D2 dedicated diagnostic tool such as Nano Evo, Hawkeye or Lynx, you can access a compensation setting within the BCU.

Also bear in mind that the latter D1's had an electronic speedo, so changing the speed sensor in the transfer box would also apply.

I'm sure you make some confusion Dave cos the BCU is not even involved in the speedo signal, the link is ABS sensors - SLABS ECU - speedometer, no correction with tester
