ive put a 3.9efi from a 1988 RRC into my v8 defender it's all running but still having idle issues,
I have finally managed to adapt the speed transducer cable to fit and so the speedo cable, only thing is when I tested it while moving it was hovering around 7-8volts and only Fluctuated around the 0-2 volts when in reverse,

Also the yellow and green wire coming out of it switch round when connected to the factory plug from the RRC so the green goes to the yellow and vice-Versa on the connecting plug

My questions are;

1: Can the speed transducer box be connected the wrong way round via the speedo cable and transfer box cable?

2: should I follow the first wire coming out from the box to be the signal signal (yellow) and not connect to the green once the wires have switched over once connected to the original RRC plug ( I'm trying to keep this connection as its a good water tight connector)

Any help would be great.

Cheers

Don't have the answers you are looking for. Glad to hear you are up and running. So what idle issues do you have?

Tickover is very high and sometimes irratice, have fitted a brand new stepper motor but no cure, get a whine from the back of the plenum when not under load, and when I clamp the pipe attached to the stepper motor and throttle it stops, going to strip it all off tomorrow to have a look,

One other problem I do have is that I have the original 3.5 su temp gauge inside but a 3.9 sender, so reads asif its over heating all the time but I know its not. What gauges and senders are people using?

The whining sounds like a vacuum leak back there and would account for the high idle. It could also be a pattern vacuum hose collapsing under vacuum. Once sorted, set the base idle. A garage can easily do this if you don't have the kit and the specs were on the ACT link I posted on your previous thread. I don't think fitting the transducer will help you. @waldamar may be able to help you with guages. I've never had this issue. Mine reads perfect to a BMW guage

I'd say your temp gauge is the most important of all, don't trust mismatched senders and electric gauges, replace the whole lot with an old school mechanical gauge, £30.00 or so Durite or Tim are both excellent. After all the work you've done don't risk cooking it with an unreliable gauge. Sadly your other issues beyond my experience - I've got a big thirsty Weber! Good luck

Interesting thread, I've (well, me and a mate who knows what he's doing while I make tea) just installed a 14cux hotwire system from a later RRC into my 1989 RRC that used to have the old flapper system.

Anyway, the final piece of the jigsaw for me is the speed sensor. We're going down the route of a magnetic sensor mounted under the car pointing at the front driveshaft bolts on the output end of the transfer box. I'll let you know how that goes if you want? Should hopefully get it done in the next couple of weeks. I've read on another forum about someone getting the speed sensor working correctly and it transforming the vehicle.

Also, have you hooked yours up to a computer yet with rovergauge? That helps a lot. We also made up a bracket with a couple of microswitches so the ECU knows whether I'm in drive/reverse or park/neutral.

Good luck with it.

Dave

Well, don't know if anyone is interested but after some fettling and fiddling we have successfully created a working road speed sensor on my RRC using one of these: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/magnetic-pickups/2355706/

It has finished the lucas 14cux hotwire install nicely and the system definitely needs one to work correctly. If anyone needs details of what we did pm me, just thought I'd update this thread because I said I would!

1) Is your idle high all the time or only when your coming to a stop whilst driving? I recommend fitting the speed transducer it made a difference to the way mine runs. I have the speedo cable connected to the plastic end of the rst and the cable to the transfer box connected to the metal end and I get accurate speed readings on ecumate.

2) This gauge is what i have fitted. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VDO-52mm-...606490?hash=item33869a885a:g:kGAAAOSwxCxT14zm

Hope this helps.
