defender 90 G reg currently with no radio or speakers.i am looking for a half decent sound system but reasonable price given it's just the weekend toy. Have no clue where to start, so any help appreciated!

I'm thinking 4 speakers - 2 rear roof and 2 in normal knee cracking location (unless there is a better location). A sub and an amp to increase the power.

As I don't gave any speakers just now, it's all new cut outs or mounts, so not limited to size etc. It I like the idea of the MUD under cubby box housing for the amp

I'm looking at a cheapo single din fold out screen radio as I like the idea of screen sharing my OS maps, adding reverse camera etc at a later date, hands free phone etc.

So where to start with speakers and amp?

So you want to run 4 speakers, sub and amp and power it all with a cheap head unit?

I think you need to re think your strategy.

What is your budget?

It's all a bit pointless in a defender, you'd need to have it so loud to overcome the vehicle noise that it wouldn't be very pleasurable. I fitted a stereo in my series but took it out after a week. I prefer to listen out for bits dropping off.

That’s why I am asking for help! And noted I don’t really know where to start!

I thought having an amp would take the strain off the header unit, but maybe i’m Wrong there ?

Budget...how cheap can I do it without wishing I spent more? I’ll use the car 3 or 4 times a month. I love music, but it’s a noisy defender so no point putting in the bet gear!

true. I’ve considered the same, but I my internal thoughts are boring so I want some music haha

You might be better off playing your music through your phone via ear-phones or whatever they call them these days.

I fitted a stereo in my 110 but to be honest it was difficult to hear anything when travelling unless turned up to unhealthy levels.
I tended therefore to use it only when stationary.
If I fitted another then I'd go with high level speakers all round and not bother with those in front of your knees.
Better still I bought a Disco 2 and can now hear my stereo clearly at any speed without having to turn it up to compensate.
As far as the system goes my lad has been looking at a Pyle PLBT71G with built in sat nav. No idea whether its that good but he wouldnt be looking at it if it didnt have some sort of an edge.

However, why waste the load space, this looks great . . . .

I have two ultimate ears portable blue tooth speakers, you can link them with your phone so they play at the same time, great sound and easy to make a suport as are designed to be screwed on to tripod if necesary, there water proof so of roading not to much trouble and you can set them up outside the car if your camping.
Also ig you have friends withn them you can link up to about 20 i think.

Always thought those seats with built in speakers in the headrest would be a good idea for Defenders (Like the MX5 ones)
You can crank up the volume without the whole street hearing you coming down the road

Now thats thinking outside the box.
How come we never thought of that sooner?
