Ok still a newbie to landrovers and mechanics but i am enjoying it ! Today i changed the spark plugs on my 1.8 freelander as supplied by britparts as part of a service kit (oil air etc) and since then it sounds rough and is missing. I have checked that each of the HT leads is pressed securely onto the spark plugs and not sure what else to check ??

i assume i was sent the correct plugs for the 1.8 and equally assume i shouldnt have to change gaps on the sark plugs if they were bought for a 1.8 freelander.

have i done something wrong or is it the plugs i have bought ?

any advice much appreciated as it was running great on the old plugs but i thought i was doing right chaging all plugs and filters as i have just bought it

ye cant get thum wrong they would be either too long or too short heffs, you may have knackered a lead, or you may have duff plugs, i only ever buy NGK plugs, and unless the plugs are suffixed with a -11 or similar they are un-gapped and need gapping before fitting
 
as said i couldnt get the leads in the wrong order as they are all separate lengths so one wouldnt reach if i got them wrong

you think i need to measure and adjust the gaps of the plugs ? surely if bought for a landy freelander they shoud be correct ?

could i have knackered a lead just by removing it ?

this saving money servicing yourself isnt proving too great so far !
 
leads are easy to fook up, over wime they get brittle with the heat from the engine, also the metal connectors corrode, as i said before unless you have gapped plugs (with a suffix number) you should gap them, i do even if they have a suffix.
i don't know who make britparts plugs for them but i would bet there ****, if i were you get some NGK plugs i will look-up the part no and gap for you
 
right you need PFR6N-11 thats a platinum tipped plug that is pre-gapped to 1.1mm don't try to re-gap these as it will damage the plug, these should have a service life of arround 40,000-60,000 miles they int cheap but they are the best (recomended by 99% of the motor trade and sold by my work)

the ones i put in were NLP100290L - are these no good ? i suppose i need to put the old ones back in (which were running fine) to determine whether its the leads or the plugs - looks like thats me in the wheely bin then
 
Never heard of pregapped plugs been runnin deisels for a while now. But I would always check them even if you couldn't alter them. I dropped a plug once and closed the gap down slightly, took a while to work out what was wrong.
 
just put the old plugs back in and alls well again - all gaps are ok too so can only assume one of the plugs is a duffer - will get myself some NGK tomorrow (thats whats back in as well)
