Hey guys,

just changed my spark plugs to some "Bosch 503 WR78 Super 4"s (Halfords | Bosch 503 Super 4 Spark Plug x4) on my '93 3.5l v8 disco.
Now I'm getting a misfire (I think... car's shaking a little bit, there's a dull tapping noise coming from one side of the engine and there's a sweet/petroly smell coming from the exhaust, plus the occasional drop of liquid).

Are there any common problems I may have caused? My HT leads are fairly new "lumenition" silicone leads and don't appear to be arcing, dizzy cap seems fine... I did drop two plugs while changing them  but they didn't appear to be damaged as I caught them with my foot. They're all in tight, connected properly etc. Maybe they're just the wrong plugs? I did just buy them from Halfords...

*sigh... I should be banned from touching my car haha

I realise this is a pretty vague problem but I would appreciate any advice on where to start looking

cheers

Clearly, yeah... Just put the old plugs back in and it's back to normal.

Lesson of the day: Halfords employees are not to be trusted

Ordered the plugs you recommended above. Your reputation's on the line now, Noisy!

ive always said bosch super4 were crap, one mate wrote his engine off when they broke up and I had a set which missfired after 200 miles and took em back to halfuds- got £157 compensation after a 1 year wait lol and they said they had had loads of problems with them.

wow thank god I took them out! I have to say, I ran them for about ten-fifteen minutes before I changed them back, and when I took them out one had a bent electrode and they were all pitch black... Not impressed. Might take them back to halfords and show them how terrible they are, but I certainly won't be buying anything important from them again.

Don't blaim Halfords entirely and tbh don't blame bosch, BMW fit Bosch plugs OEM and they do just fine.

So tbh I think it's just a mismatched or wrongly specced plug for the RV8.

Get the NGK in there and be happy :)

If what Fett's said is true then I think it's fair to say they're not right... Fair enough if they work on BMs or anything else, but they were sold to me as specifically working for a '93 3.5 v8 engine and, well, they don't (whether or not that's my fault :p). Setting yourself up as a source of reliable professional advice and then giving advice that could damage property breaks some sort of common law tort (can't remember which one, I think professional negligence), which I guess is why Fett got his cash.

I'm not bothered over £20 or whatever it was though haha. Just gotta remember that Halfords is marketed at jumped up Peugeots with massive spoilers and neon lights, not land rovers haha.

Live and learn :)

never had a problem with any LR guys (at least in this country ) but I'm sure you're always gonna get your gooduns and your baduns

Shame you didn't waltz out with champion RN11YCC (iirc) xos although not as long lasting as NGK at less they would have worked before you dropped them!

Anyway, you can definitely take them back. They take any old ****. Ack at Halfords, that's part of what you pay for when you hand over huge amounts of cash!

Interesting - I run my 3.9 on Bosch Super 4's and never had a problem. Would have to say that dropping the plugs on the floor would not have helped.
