Hi I'm currently running 285 45r 22 on 58 plate 3.6 tdv8. Have only just realised that spare is only a 255 50 20. Is this OK as a spare or will it cause problems if I use it. Thanks for any feedback peeps. Rich
 
There is quite a difference in rolling radius according to an online calculator, 100.8" for the 22`s and 94.3" for the 20`s so it would not do the diffs or the abs much good, so maybe look for another 22"

No. It should be a full sized wheel to be used as a normal road wheel. well all mine are:D.

Dont do any of those imitation wheels:eek:.

Seems someone forgot to buy the spare when they went from silly wheels to rubber bands. I'dcsay no to using it. Apart from the technical side, something in me is saying there might be a roads violation in it, if not a one off emergency , eg, stuck on motorway or similar predicament.
 
Using an odd sized wheel other than an emergency "Space Saver" spare is illegal. In the event of an accident you could be in deep trouble.
 
Not to mention it will cause mayhem for the Torsen Centre Diff and the ABS/DSC will freak the feck out no doubt!
 
Today's rim sizes astound me, being an old fart.
20in. is the size on the HGV's I used to drive, albeit with a lot more rubber wrapped around them :eek:
Just out of interest, can anyone explain what the attraction is to car owners ?
nb. rubber band tyres should in theory be cheaper, but I doubt that's the case.
 
well my 22's are wider than my 19's which in theory gives a bit more tyre in contact with the road, the side walls are less which gives them less flex, on good roads the handling is better than my friends who is on 18's having said that i always switch back to the 19's during winter

It's fashion. Low profile tyres are really only applicable to high performance cars for their lower compliance and so improved handling.
