Spare Wheel relocation
Dear Defender owners, I am relocating my spare wheel, the back door is not strong enough and the spare wheel carrier rattles. I have mack 5 wheels so it is a bit big to put it on the bonnet, have you got your spare on the bonnet ( if you can put some picks up please) or any other ideas I would be very greatfull. Cheers

I used to have a spare wheel on the bonnet. Pain in the arse as it hinders visibility when going down hill or cresting a steep step!

The bonnet mount is useless with big wheels, restricts way to much visibility and is bordering on illegal. A swing away is the best option for a rear mount, plenty strong enough and fairly cheap. I personally have mine mounted inside on one side, it doesn't take up loads of room and it stops it hitting on steep banks, I do t have rear passengers mi d so if you do it's not really an option

I think I might go for the inside mount, I have a whitbread external cage on my 90 so I could mount it on the roof but I don't like the way that looks.
Regards

Mount it on the back side panel, externally. Like the MOD Wolfs.
Type Defender Wolf into Google if you want an example.

If your running a cage then it's a pretty dedicated off roader so stick it inside, best place. I just use a ratchet strap attached to the rail to hold it and a towel to stop it squeaking.

I've got a swing away carrier and it works a treat for both on and normal off-roading
I'll add a picture to my profile
