I have had a look around and the out

rigger shown is not on my 109, neither is it fitted to any of the 109's I have found pics of in the rebuild threads and it doesn't seem to be in the parts maula I have.
What is it for? There are no holes in it and no obvious sign it either supports or bolts to anything.

Mine is an 88, so possibly totally irrelevant, but....

...that would be where the under-driver-seat fuel tank would fit on mine.

Are you sure there are no holes in it at all? Mine had 3 holes in the lower edge, which the tank bolts to.

I assume on a 109 that your tank is further back, in which case it's probably not needed....but might allow you to add an extra tank at some point, if you wish.

The tank on my 109 is further back between the frames. There are definitely no holes in the outrigger which is another reason I am puzzled as obviously nothing can bolt to it as is. The pictures on their website show it fitted to all versions of the 6 pot 109 on the website, didn't really notice until I took out the floor and realised it was not there on my donor.

It is indeed for the front fuel tank. Not the best photo but the tank is actually fitted here, not resting on the seat underneath.

There are different front tanks. My 109 SW has a rear and front tank but the front tank does not have that filler neck shown in the pic. Mine has a filler cap that is virtually flush with the top of the tank but it's about the same size, 10 gallons I think. Maybe petrol and diesel tanks are different, mine is petrol.
