 Can anybody help please? - I recently purchased some 30mm "hubcentric" wheel spacers for my '96 Disco fitted with standard/original fitment alloys. Trouble is when the spacers are fitted the wheels need to be orientated by 36 degrees and this causes the rear to foul the heads of the small hub bolts. Between the 5 stud holes the alloys have a clearance void. When I tried the spacers, the heads of the small hub bolts actually dug into and slightly damaged the rear of the alloys. This happens because the wheels need to be rotated 36 degrees from the original studs/lugs datum, and where once the clearance at the rear of the alloy accomodated the small hub bolts, the clearance has naturally shifted 36 degrees.
Fitting extended studs/lugs would keep the alloys in their original orientation, just seems like a a lot of extra work for the sake of a little interference that I suppose could be ground away (carefully). The problem then would be if I remove the spacers, I'm left with bloody long studs to remove again. Would carefully removing a little alloy from the rear of the rims be advisable? Thanks ..... tdb

first question would be why do you want to put wheel spacers on? the result of fitting wheel spacers is that the wheel bearings wear out quicker.

Hi Slob, thanks for replying. Well, I'm afraid its probably just vanity, seeing the end result with the spacers fitted, just looked so much better. I have to admit I didn't buy the vehicle for serious off roading, I'm a keen Carp angler and with all the gear for overnight stays and the necessity to drive off the beaten track the Disco was ideal. Now I've come to love it, and can't see myself driving anything else. But to answer your question again, why fit spacers - purely the asthetics.

ah! you havn't seen the end result with spacers .;the end result with spacer is, landy in workshop on axle stands getting new wheel bearings or landy in ditch cause wheel bearing gave up while cornering
