Having stripped and taken a close look at my rear half door, it's shagged...so ordered one of these yesterday and some T Wash. Understanding that SP have a reputation for poor delivery/comms thought I'd contact them this morning to confirm delivery date. "spoke..." with Charlotte on their webchat pop-up jobbie [could be some fat bloke sat in his underpants called, Kelvin:eek:]

Delivery due tomorrow, I look forward to a speedy SP door arrival...

After receiving a badly made rear door from SP they were very helpful in the end and sorted it all out for me, they even sent me the replacement door before I had even sent the bad one back. They did have a bad rep but I think they have sorted it.

The fault was with the hinge holes being misaligned, they admitted a failure in their production process could allow this to happen and a new type of jig was employed to stop this - new door was fine.

Well...it had to be to good to be true, SP4x4/JWP Trading have struck again. Door and kit arrived yesterday...just offered up new rear half door...the door hinge holes and rear vertical frame are a good 10mm out[!] Ordering from this company went against all gut feel, had heard/read so many bad reviews..."don't buy from SP...!!"

Have had to email the f***kers where they intentionally have no contact telephone number and the online webchat thing is offline

Can anyone recommend another manufacturer/supplier of galvanised safari half rear doors...?

Buy one of the ones from a main parts supplier, get it chemically stripped and then galved yourself. You have the added advantage of being able to fit it before messing round with galve, and then fine tune anything that needs doing. I would drill all the holes at least 0.5mm bigger, possibly 1.0mm bigger.

I had a bad experience with SP, and wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. They bloke who replied to my complaint told me that the parts couldn’t possibly be damaged, due to being packaged in cardboard. Tosser.

Thanks Mick, tossers indeed...their packaging is crap. I'm going to give them a chance to redeem themselves from this afternoon's correspondence. If I don't hear back by midday trow they can collect the door kit for a full refund. If they resolve issue asap I'll be happy. All this is a real shame as the rest of the door is in fact of good quality. I'm guessing their assembly jigs are incorrect and/or assemblers are a bunch of ham fisted muppets who don't know how to assemble/drill to a simple set of drawings/standard specifications. Really, how hard is it to jig assemble, weld frame, galvanise and drill four holes in the right place...? It's not.

By chance, do you have a contact number for them...?

No I don’t. I didn’t get one when I asked about speaking to someone over the phone. Usual crap of “we are website based only”. Their customer service is on par with Shielder in my opinion. They did offer to collect the parts and refund me, whilst stating that cardboard is the best packaging material and stopping damage, but not putting any between the two parts in the same box.

When you look at the price of their complete doors, and compare them to britpart, I would go with the britpart doors and have the mess around of getting them stripped and galved myself.

Exactly the same experience as me (which I have previously posted on here at length). :(

I wanted a pair of galvanised front doors and as the only supplier I ordered from SP4x4 (despite the warnings) as I assumed that they must get something right some of the time.
They didn't and the whole process was a nightmare.

Paddocks do an OEM door in the later pressed steel style, which are a fair bit stronger than the welded originals. Alternatively there a company in Northern Ireland called Mossside Landrovers who make reinforced galv doors which come with good reviews.

This sounds like my story all over again, this is from their email to me last summer: "Looking at the timescale of when you ordered it must have been on of an early batch as we have a process in place now that makes it impossible for the hinges tubes to be misaligned like in that photo. As now before we weld the tubes into the component I apologise for any inconvenience caused."

So were they lying, how can your door be screwed up too if they have a new system?

In fairness Paul did sort it all for me, you are quite right there is no number for them but they do respond, total PITA I know.

I'd request they send you a new one (tell them you need the box for the old one to go back as you don't have the box now) and then check you are happy with the new one and they will uplift the old, this is what they did for me.

Well my door arrived with a ding in the bottom corner where it had no doubt been dropped! Door had slipped free from its cardboard protection band and was rattling about in the box loose.

Well, l ordered my TD5 rear door from Britpart.
The first one arrived damaged so a second one was delivered (but not until the first one arrived back with them)

The door itself was fine, visibly indistinguishable from the OE one, and fitted perfectly.

Thanks @Retroanaconda , I'll follow up on these over the w/e

Not when the door holes are out by 10mm you don't. The hinge holes are at fixed centres. Following your/SP instructions would mean having to drill four new holes in the rear of tub bodywork!!

For your reference.

Here you can see that at production, there are no hinge holes in the vehicle for the rear door.

On fitting the half door, you have received, you would fit hinges to the door, offer the door up to the vehicle & then you would drill the holes.

I am assuming this would been the way you have attempted to fit the door.

We sell a large quantity of this half rear door and never come across the issue, you're having, until today. <<this, absolute lies...!!<<

Kind Regards,

Ashleigh

Dear Ashley,

Not only can SP/JWP not produce to standard specification, you cannot get collection dates correct within correspondence; stating both 1st March and 1st April 2021 for collection [?!] I confirm the Land Rover door will be ready for collection Monday 1st March from my home address. Please ensure there is absolutely no delay in issuing a full refund.

Dear Josette,

To be frank, I'm not interested in comparing other doors. SP/JWP Trading should be producing Land Rover doors to original specification drawings and, therefore, producing right first time product. As a senior consulting engineer I know how easy it is to produce such a simple product.

Regarding comparing doors, SP/JWP already know they are producing ill fitting doors. The majority of global Land Rover forums/websites are full of critique of the SP/JWP product, often with damming criticism of your hinge hole locations. The only reason these errors take place is due to the absolute lack of basic product Quality Control.

Where SP/JWP Trading have ignored my request to send out a new door and to provide a contact telephone number, I give notice of cancelling my order for full refund due to faulty/not fit for purpose product. Pls arrange a time to collect your faulty door and kit from my home. I expect this to be expedited immediately.

Good Morning v8250,
Thank you for your previous email, I apologise about the door error and for any inconvenience caused. What we can do is arrange a collection to get the door returned to us to review it and compare it to other doors to make sure they don't have the same defect and then will send a replacement out to you after that.
Kind Regards,

Josette

Thats brilliant. What a bunch of ****s. Drill new holes to line up with the door hinge holes, erm, no I don’t think so.

I would be very tempted to do as @lightning had suggested and go with Britpart.

And to add, here's where the SP muppets are going wrong. They believe that if they drill the hinge holes at their door position, we then have to add new holes to our tub bodywork  Their answer is to issue this picture from Land Rover production line...utter twunts o_O

REAR DOOR FITTING AT FACTORY (2).jpg

Thanks Mick, looks like Britpart it is...

I can see why some people shy away from them, but in the 5 years I have owned my defender, I have never really had problem with the blue box brand. Granted I will always try and go with a G code if I can, but where I can’t, I can’t really complain. My heated screen is the most expensive single britpart item I have purchased, but it’s holding up perfectly with almost 2 years of daily use. (I know I have just cursed it).

I would seriously look at getting the britpart door dipped and galved if it’s a decent fit and quality. I have no idea how much it will be, but it can’t be more expensive and infuriating than what SP have charged and delivered.

Britpart door & kit ordered. The unit comes galvanised...so I'll t-wash the complete door, degrease, two coats of zinc etch primer, two coats of NATO Gloss Enamel...thoroughly dry and then Dinitrol the frame innards. This should give a good few years use...Ideally, another 33 years!

fyi the Britpart kit delivered is £324.00, the SP/JWP Trading was £271.00 delivered.

It's a shame about SP as the quality of the door and metal gauge used is really very good, but they fail to understand the importance of correct jig assembly production to ensure 100% correct first time fitting. I hate to think how much annual revenue/profit they lose due to poor design/build/lazy management. Plus loss of credibility/future sales orders when the forums are full of these type of damming threads.

It makes you wonder why none of them have joined places like this, to try and clear their name. The same can be said about Shielder Chassis. Why don’t the owners do something positive and defend their products? The only reason I can see is they don’t care.

I don’t think that’s bad value at all. Is that the old style lift up military door handles?

Edit: where did you order the britpart kit from? Mine is going to need all 5 doors replacing soon, so best make a list of suppliers.

Searched the interweb, this was the lowest price delivered incl' VAT + quick delivery. Also looked at Paintman Panels as they're getting a good reputation for properly good quality doors, but alas, no half doors. If Paintman Panels and YRM went into all Landy door/panel supplies they'd clean up the market as both Co's provide such brilliant service and are genuinely good people to deal with.
