Found some WiFi of sorts so a bit of an update. We arrived in Erg Chebbi after a long day following pistes along the Algerian border, quite a few check points but army and police always friendly. Spent 2 days in Erg Chebbi at Dune Dor Auberge, lovely place right on th edge of the dunes. A great fun days driving in the dunes, my Defender equites itself very well only getting stuck once and that was a quick dig and out. The Disco 3 however had to be winched out once, dug and pushed out 4 times 😄.
After Erg Chebbi we headed east and a bit north across the Black Rock Desert, some bits of MS12 and MS6 from Chris Scott's book plus some made up sections. We wild camped near Lac Maider and then followed some of the classic Rally pistes to Zagora.
We've been in Zagora for two days getting the vehicles checked and re-provisioning for the next section. All the vehicles were checked in at Garage Iriki and given a thorough check. My 110 had faired quite well though the punishing sections had taken its toll. I had both front and back diff pinion seals changes, new gear box mounts, new rear ant-roll bar bushes and front steering damper bushes. They then checked all fluid levels, topped up as needed and then washed it. Cost me the princely sum of £130 😄. Aziz, the guy who runs it is an amazing chap and a very good mechanic. I would highly recommend him if you are ever there.
Heading off in the morning for two more days in the desert, Zagora to Erg Cheggaga and the across Lac Iriki.
I'll try and attach some pics but will do a full write up when I get back next week also.
Cheers
