Hi, I'm a little confused on SORN.

If you have a vehicle which is still taxed but is parked on your drive and no longer insured, do you have to do a SORN.

The websites says you do. When you try to do the online declatation it says the car does not need a SORN until 1.9.12 (when the tax runs out)

If it's uninsured then it needs to be sorned. In order to sorn it you have to surrender the tax disc.
 
It is taxed but the insurance has been swapped to a new vehicle.

According to the site they have to have a SOEN even if they are still taxed. But when you try to do it, it says you dont need to.

Nah in order to sorn it he needs to surrender the tax. Ya can't have tax on an unisured vehicle anymore.

Now that makes sense, why dont they tell you that on the site.

Thanks, I was going to sell it with tax, will now have to sell it without.

FFS is there no end the gov'ments crap.... Mine aint insured yet cos the private plate is being change over to original number, wheres that leave me?
 
I seem to recall that if you are selling the car you dont need to surrender the tax disc , but check with DVLA.

As long as ya send in the V5 with the noo owners name and address on it. then it int you're problem anymore..
 
Why the bloody hell do you need insurance if the cars parked up doing nowt :confused: shirley your only requirement is for road tax if it's parked on the road and in any case,all my vehicles are parked on my drive so they can fook off if they think I'm insuring them all.
I've got a trooper that's sat on my drive since 07 and just sorn the fecker every year.

Apparently its to eliminate uninsurered vehicles, just like SORN eliminated people driving round with no tax :rolleyes:

Now if you dont take out your insurance renewal your insurer notify DVLA and they check you have taken another policy out elsewhere.

so now if you cant afford to insure your car so you think you will take it off the road till next payday you have all the hassle of cashing in the tax disc, SORNing it then retaxing it when you want to insure it :mad:
