hi everyone... new to all this... apologies for spelling mistakes.

currently driving a peugeot 106 [don't laugh] and few months back put an order in for a new freelander 2 [XS auto diesel]. researched loads using this and other forums. saw many people with problems with the first model, but less with this second one, things like parking sensors, warning lights etc, just electrical problems.

checked at the showroom and fell in love with it. its amazing. the size, the height, the space [well it will be compared to a 106]

i drive a van as a job so no problems with the width and length adjustment. and course fuel will be more. i'm guessing about £80 for a full tank [at 1.20 per litre].

anyone else own the FL2? whats the fuel consumption like, and costs? maintance?

and tell me about how it feels when you drive it, your experience?
 
Fuel consumption will be the least of your problems mate, after your doors have fallen orf, head gaskets blown, and the auto box has fried itself :D:welcome2::D
Don't worry about fuel just enjoy it.

sorry i should have elaborated.

i been through the costs, but wanted to know how it sums up while driving it normally. normal road usage. as i'll most likely use it 3/4 times a week. maybe even 2. MPG wise it works out to be the same as the van. no where have i found an experienced reviews about fuel consumptions.

can't really compare the FL2 with the first release as its quiet different when looking at reviews etc. not going to mention what the dealer said to me, as his advice is just sales driven.

so any FL2 owners with experience?
 
just had a 400 mile journey motorway got 29mpg, was happy with that, auto box and in a hurry.( and it is a great drive), but heres the rub, am liking my sons disco 3 on air, crikey it handles well, and so smooth over the bumps.
 
Had our FL2 for over a year and 30k miles.
If you keep the speed down to below 80 you should get 32mpg out of the auto, keep it down to 60 you should get 35mpg. Floor it and you can get it down to 18mpg, around town expect less than 30mpg. Towing a 1 ton van I get 24mpg.
Ok I accelerate hard and brake late and some are getting 37mpg out of autos - why buy a car and then not enjoy the experience?
Reliability is in a different league to the FL1, the doors don't fall off when they get wet (the door trims are easy to knock off though), you will be unlucky to have to visit the dealer between services. Speaking if which 150,000 miles between cam belt changes.

Snow and ice last year was a breeze, really enjoyed pulling stuck BMWs out.
Braking is at least as good as our old 06 auto FL1, and the pads last longer - was lucky to get 20k out of any set of front pads on our old one.
Handling is very subjective - I prefer the FL1, but am in the minority, maybe it's the shorter wheelbase on the FL1 makes it feel more nimble.
 
I bought my FL2 GS manual in April brand new.

Lovely motor. Can't comment on fuel economy from auto but the manual is great. The stop/start adds to fuel savings too, easy 40+mpg can be achieved with motorway driving. Either gear box is not the real issue though. The car is just great full stop. Terrain response is a good gadget, going green laning this weekend for a good try out of the system. Very refined car overall and I am glad I added heated windscreen and washer jets for next to nothing as an option for those frosty mornings. Of course the XS has these and more as standard and the HSE even more again but I just had the peasant model lol!

Now even the fl2 owners think they can have a go :doh:.i changed my brake pads 40k ago and they still look new,i do move on and try not to use the brakes at all :D.
im glad to see you prefered the fl1 ;).
I hope more people ie. fl2 owners start discussing their strengths and weaknesses.
 
If your buying a new motor off a main dealer they will allow you to test drive one first. Naturally you need a licence, and there will be limits on points and maybe age. It's soomething you should do if buying a car, to get the feel of one before parting with yer cash.
 
If i wuz buying a 30k motor fuel economy wud be the last thing on me mind **** me what planet do some people live on?

If he can afford it, then it's up to him if he wants to buy it. There's a lot of them about with low mileages on the second hand market, if he wants to save a bit. I'd be happy if he bought either a red or blue auto diesel, and had it serviced regular and looked after it well. Then I could buy it off him in a few years time, depending on how long I can keep my v6 running. The more people who buy a new one, the greater the availablilty later on when I'm buying one second hand.
 
There was an early batch that had faulty power steer filters - part of the header tank I believe.
This would demolish the pump and get ingested into the power steer rack.
Cr*p dealers would just change the pump and hoped the rack would make it to the end of the warranty - often requiring several visits, the better dealers changed the lot and problem went away. Most have been done under warranty, I don't think there was a recall.
When it comes to buying without test driving, saw mine second-hand on a dealers forcourt on a Sunday when they were closed, rang up the next morning and paid the deposit over the phone, signed the paperwork on Wednesday evening without ever getting inside.
No idea what the fuel economy was, what servicing cost was, had demo drive in a manual the first week they came out 2 years previous - bought an auto.
Then again it was £15k off list with less than 1,000 miles on the clock :)
Best car I have ever bought.
 
How come there was 15k off the list price? Not that I'm complaining. Hope it happens to me one day.

Funny thing is G4's were very cheap about 12/18 months ago, they are getting more expensive as the last of them has now been sold from the factory.
The dealer in Bury had apparently dropped the price the week before we saw her. £21k for a HSE with extras I thought was too good to miss.
SWMBO thinks it suits my personality, very loud.
