k folks i kinda have a prob with my freelander heard a little pop sounded like a ballon popping then a min r so after i get a flashing engine light on the dash now someone says could be the head gasket which i hope its not as the im told the head was done before i bought it a couple month ago and the discovery i had died when the head went :Cry:so ant 1 got an idea? also getting a chemical smell coming from the water bottle. any help would be much appreciated :)

it is using water but not all the time seem tempermental chemical smell worse then usual its a 2003 1.8 petrol been told the head was done @ 53k has 70k on it now only got it couple months ago so cant say i noticed a difference in driving it or the sound.

I presume its the ubiquitos head gasket munching K series?
Check the oil, is it mixed with owt?
Check t'water has it got oil in it?

If still unsure, compression or cooling system pressure check should confirm the doom.

I had something like this. A small bang and lack of water. then niticed water on the floor under the car. It turned out to be the heater matrix.
