I'm confused now :confused::)
I am sorry if you seem confused, but in essence what I am saying is that the rust as been accumulating over the years which was never picked up at the MOT
over said years, was it actually part of the test or not, in other words was this so called fail a fraud.

There's a place in Saltney nr Chester that charge £250 a side for the welding so they are a bit dear. I don't know the name of the firm,a member on here used them

I'm confused because in one sentence you say they failed it and in another you said they didn't?

People normally under estimate just how much work is in welding to be done properly and they don't understand just how much one little patch that you see can develop into quite a large area that needs repairing but i have to say on this occasion £500 per side appears quite steep. does this include any exterior painting to panel work?

I thought it was a bit dear too, but I will let them do the work and I won't use them again, the only thing that is different than a dealership is they only charge £70 labour whereas Land Rover it is £125

Yes it does, all the paint will be done after the welding, which could be the reason for the high cost, we will see

Think you will find a Main Stealer will not touch your car with a barge pole,it's too old and they certainly won't do any welding, they may farm it out and put a hefty mark up on the price.

This is the weird bit, he told me it had failed, because of this corrosion. When I checked the GOV website the MOT is still active, so was it tested or not.

I would check that,I was led to believe that if a car fails the MOT then any time left on the old certificate is voided.

Ah! they might, if it was in their interest, like they would do the gearbox for £550+vat, I said no thanks

even with a valid MOT it has to be road worthy. The MOT failure must say something like "Nearside Rear Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded outer sill (5.2.6)"
i.e it must say it's structural or unsafe.
What is the exact wording?

This is the point, the MOT is still active and not been updated as failed.

An MOT only shows the vehicle was roadworthy at the point of the test.
A car that has a major crash and no wheels can still have a valid MOT on paper

Ahem how did it get to the crash with no wheels, or was it parked at the time, but I get your point.

Is this your cars history?
