Even a private sale should let you take the car for a test drive. Anyone who says you can't test drive a car they have for sale is beyond dodgy.

Proper stealers would take you for a drive on trade plated.WALK AWAY AND DONT LOOK BACK. Or offer them £400 for spares or repair

+1
No proper test drive and no warranty = spares or repairs car, so for an 06 TD4 don't pay more than £1500. I bought an 02 car and even with a test drive I didn't notice a crunchy 3rd gear. I was lucky and filling the gearbox with atf fixed it but I could have had to replace the gearbox.

I was going to say £1000 just because it has plenty of MOT but figured because of the year and mileage it would probably be worth £1500 to someone who can fix it themselves (All Freelanders need work doing regardless of MOT). If you use a garage to do your maintenance then run a mile.

My patience might have paid off....I've found a TD5 Disco 2 with no chassis rot, in excellent condition, great mileage and at a good price. Spoke to the bloke today, viewing the vehicle on Sunday.
